the Canadian market

I've looked at some discussions (and am aware of the mild controversy) surrounding the supply/demand situation for the GTS in the US. But I wonder if the Canadian market is unique.

- There does seem to be a lot of low-mileage 2016s available on the used market. And they don't move. I assume these are trade-ins from people who thought the car was more GT focused?

- Every dealer I've spoken to is trying very hard to get me to buy their in-stock car rather than order. Their behaviour is not consistent with dealers who have a limited commodity available.

- I'm considering Solarbeam. I realize this will hurt values. But is this a lot or a little.

- Residuals on the car seem to be about 59-60% after 3 years in the US. Are we expecting the same curve here in Canada?

Relative to some of the other options I'm considering (used R8s, and a variety of 911s), the GTS seems to be the biggest risk in terms of depreciation.

The real value in all of these cars is the driving........

If you like solar beam and the righteous sound of this V-8 , than go do it man. $$are secondary.

Not sure about the numbers in Canada, but in Europe the R8 has tanked really badly, with 2 year old cars (under 17.000 km) for 85.000€, 50-60% in 2 years.

Definitely not the case here.

I wish I was in a position to put little thought into depreciation...but I've found that I enjoy cars more if I feel like I'm not over-paying for my use of them. So the depreciation thing actually matters to me.

The AMG GTS is a driver's car, it's not impacted as heavily from high mileage, like a Ferrari/Lambo is. But what exactly is the issue with the Solarbeam color and depreciation?

Given that it's a niche, and perhaps "trendy" color, I wonder if it is harder to sell in the secondary market. When you hear about GTS's sitting on dealer lots for ages, it's often a solar beam.

Seems like the Canadian market is very different from the EU market. The Solarbeam paint costs 8.5k, as opposed to the Grey Magno for 2.6k or all other colors at 1.1k (or 0 if Black/plain Red).
The German market has 228 AMG GT/GTS for sale, of which only 9 are Solarbeam, these are numbers for the entire country. Doesn't seem to be that difficult to sell if you look at it like "the Premium color that costs as much as Hell Green Magno".

I keep an eye on the UK market and you rarely find a 2nd generation R8 under £100k

If anything the GT/S market is far softer... pre-reg easily >10% discount.

Audi R8: 2 years-old and newer starting at 85.000€, European market.

https://www.autoscout24.de/ergebniss...t=price&desc=0

In comparison, Europe-wide and again 2 years-old and newer, there is no AMG GT (not even talking about GTS) for less than 95.000€

That's the thing that always had me crazy on those cars. Nobody's driving to protect the loss.

What a *** ed model for owning a sports car. Or any car for that matter

I clearly specified 2nd Generation, for which the cheapest on your German link is €118k, which is £99k, so as I said for the UK equivalent.

Maybe the used GT market is strengthening...... with buyers that don't like the Panamericana

Huge trunk money for cars in Canada right now. New 2017s are being discounted $20k or more. That seems insane. What's going on in Canada? Too much supply obviously.

I've never considered new AMGs before because of their horrid reputation for depreciation. I thought the GTS might be an exception, but the signals here are worrying.

It's probably because of the new facelift hitting the stores as we speak.

Are they physically arriving now?

I haven't heard anything in Canada yet.

I'm one of those people. I would prefer the old grill. It's classier and the pinched beak look of the area just under the panamericana part of the grill is not attractive, especially in lighter colors.

I think in other vehicles I've looked at (Gen1 R8 for instance), the best deal ever on the car was the just-before-refresh dump of existing stock.

Yes, just visited my dealer today and he had the GTR in Green Hell Magno, and the GTC Roadster in Grey Magno. Beautiful cars, but the Green is a little disappointing, I must say it looked better on the pictures, it's a little "dull", but it could have been because of the lighting in there.

What color top and interior on roadster?

I'm sure there are some who would like to know where dealer is.

Solarbeam doesn't look much different than regular yellow

Magno grey is waaay better i feel like ppl don't want pay extra for solarbeam when it's so close to the free yellow color they offer on new ones
