Replace front bumper trim

I'm not sure the exact term for this piece, but it's the rubber or plastic trim at the bottom of the front grill. It essentially protects the front bumper from scraping when leaving a steep driveway or something. Anyway, mine has come off in the center and is sagging some. the pins that hold it in aren't just screws, but something I'm afraid to remove. Has anyone had experience replacing this piece or simply reattaching it? I'm sure this question has been posted before but I'm not sure how to phrase it to effectively search the forum.

Those are rivets. I just ripped mine off and threw it away.

Mine ripped in half when I pulled my hose under the nose of my car. It's seems like an afterthought. Certainly not engineered like the rest of the car. It can't be helping the aero. I agree with Alexfor8. Pull it and toss it.

You guys referring to the rubber piece way underneath to prevent scratching the bumper?

Yes sir. I have a friend who also had a GT S and he had the same problem. He did what the fellas above recommend and simply took it off. Scrapes are damn near inevitable no matter how careful, which is why mine is sagging now in the first place. So I think this could be a good thing to have. What's your take on it?

Personally I think any kind of buffer between the ground and your expensive bumper is good. I have had that rubber piece save me a couple times from scratching a brand new bumper . There is a member on this formum who is fabricating and selling a really tough and good skid plate which I am looking into . This car sits rather low and it would be a shame to just scrape up the front artwork on the car. However if it’s just a limp sagging piece of rubber I guess it doesn’t make any sense to try to salvage it ...

Those are rivets, they must be drilled out, and replaced by installing new ones with the rivet install tool.

I had my piece come loose. What I did was buy stainless steel screws and loosen the entire panel that holds the loose piece so I could get to the inside. I cut the rivets out and reinstalled the piece with the stainless steel bolts with stainless nylock nuts.... all is good for many miles.

The reason I did not use rivets again was because the heads on the rivets were not very wide and this was what allowed the piece to come loose in the first place. With the stainless steel bolts I was able to use a washer to make sure piece would never pop off again.

Do you have more info or a link on the scrape guards? I've been looking into options.

The forum member that fabricates the scrape guard is SDAutoSalon.

Yes its SDAutoSalon. Matte is right. He is fabricating a thick polyacrylic bumper scrape guard. I think it was originally a design pulled from corvettes. Maybe they can mention something more about it and/or create a group buy. Maybe some pics too...I am very interested.

I reached out to them to see their response. The original post was for a GTC, so I would be interested to see compatibility/options on GTS as well

When I talked with him about it, he said that there would not be any fitment issues with the GTS.

You can tell the racer in Katie. Stainless nylock nuts. What we used to use.
