Field Trip: M-B, Germantown, MD + Wings??

Recently, my wife and I were in the DC area for our nephew's HS graduation and to check out where we'd be living when we relocate later this year to Old Town Alexandria, VA from SoCal. While visiting some of my relatives in MD, we decided to make the 7-mile detour to visit Shahul Usman and Steve Roumeliotis at Euro Motorcars in Germantown. I've appreciated the manner in which these guys post in a non-commercial way and always there with a DOG or availability of a vehicle that a forum member might want to buy. It was great meeting these guys. They are genuine auto and motorsports enthusiasts who have great personalities, are friendly and really know their product.

The eye candy on the showroom floor was incredible, too. High points were a selenite GLC 63S "coupe", a white GT4 63S with black CF wing and a black GLE coupe (43?) - all with black wheels. And there was more including a terrific E-Class wagon. (Interesting that a GLC 63S is faster to 60 mph than the heavier GLE 63S with significantly more HP. I'm still getting used to the styling on these SUV coupes.)

WINGS. I saw the comments about how wings portray a boy-racer image. What? I don't track my car in part because I have a Porsche Experience Center and Exotics Racing within about 50 miles from my home so I can wring out someone else's car (and it's what's encouraged at these locations). I don't hear people signing up and saying: "Hey, don't give me one of those cars with a funny wing on the back!". I think AMG GT cars (like the ED1 that I owned) look better with a wing, especially the GT R style.

As much as I like manual shifting, I didn't tell my Porsche dealer let's spec out a GT3 Touring instead of my winged version because I'll feel like a boy racer instead of a mature gentleman. Even my wife who was a Jetta girl when I met her says if we get another AMG GT, it has to have a wing, and that's GT R territory. God Bless that woman! Heck, back in my 4-4-2 and Corvette days, we didn't have wings -- not until my Mazda RX-7 Turbo. So that's my story on wings and, BTW, I do not like those stupid flaps on some cars that pop open like a tuna's maw.

Have a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July. Happy Driving!

I don’t think anyone has a real problem with a wing on a sport performance car . They are complaining about its presence on. Luxury sedan like the GT63. I agree with em.

Whats next? A spoiler on my 1973 El Dorado ?

HaHaHa. I agree. My father-in-law had a very sweet 1973 Buick Riviera exactly like the one below that I offered to drive at every opportunity. Classics like yours and this Riviera are terrific looking without aero add-ons. Where wings, diffusers, etc. have function, I like them. BTW, my older brother was a Cadillac guy for his entire life, and when I showed up in my new '81 M-B 240D about the same time that he had an Eldorado or Coupe De Ville, he just didn't get it!

I think a full body kit with all the extra cladding possible would really give Cutter's Eldo the right look

If racing, go for it or just trade it in for a GTR. That’s what you really wanted anyway .

Hi Shahul,
Thanks for checking in. Yes! We're in Alexandria - just a hop, skip and a double-clutch, heel-and-toe downshift away from your dealership and my sister-in-law's home in Gaithersburg. And I'm a lot closer to Watkins Glen and Summit Point! Hope to see you soon. I'd love to see the GTR PRO when it arrives at your dealership whether or not it's sold. Cheers!
