CPO warranty and a tune
Just purchased another 2016 GT S. I had one last year that was out of warranty so I put a eurocharged tune in it. I am buying this one from a Mercedes dealer. I can put the CPO warranty on it for $1580. I think I’m going to do that. Does anyone have experience with warranty issues if the car is tuned?

I have a the handheld from my other one last year. I didn’t take the tune off the car when I traded it in. I would just need the tune itself. I’m more concerned whether anyone has had experience with Mercedes voiding their warranty over the PCM being messed with. I know they can tell if it has been, even if it’s put back to stock.

Plenty of discussion on this. The bottom line is you take a risk if there is something major happening and it will depend on the relationship you have with your dealer for coverage.
If the ECU has already been opened, then it's a moot point. Keep it tuned and I would still buy the warranty as it covers other things than the engine and transmission.

Does Mercedes update ecu via satellite like the newer GM cars do? Tuners are having issues with the manufacturers doing remote updates on some newer cars and deleting the tune. Tuning the C8 is a challenge because of this, so I have been told by the guys making turbo kits for it.

Tuning the car today is a ‘Pay to Play’ gamble, although one with low odds of ‘losing’ if you go with a reputable tuning company.
What I mean is this: MB can read your ECU and read how many times it has been overwritten. It doesn’t matter whether you have replaced a ‘tune’ with the OEM data, it’s just a question of how many times data has been exchanged. If there is a major drivetrain issue, and if the ECU has been overwritten more times than it should have been during warranty/maintenance issues, etc. then MB can interrogate the ECU further to see if certain OEM parameters have been breached. At which time you may be denied a warranty repair. This is not the call of your local MB dealership regardless of your report with them, rather any expensive repair has to be OK’d by MB before the techs can start tearing down a motor, etc.
BUT: go with a reputable company who tune the car conservatively, and hopefully it isn’t a major concern.

At least on my GTS, it is simple. I just tell them not to do a software update when I take it in for service. They're not going to blankly void all aspects of your warranty. But if you blow an engine or transmission, you better be prepared to pay for a new one.

This went all the way up to corporate. I retain original CPO coverage and will not be liable for future engine/transmission issues because of this ordeal.
