Windshield damage from dump truck gravel on highway
Today on the highway a dump truck sprayed rocks all over my windshield, on my amg gt s.
It left 7 marks, one in my sightline, that are very small. Like if I took a dental pick and made a mark.
I can feel them with my nail.
anybody experience this, repaired?
I contacted a glass repair shop, I will have to book an appointment for them to fill them in.

Yeah, our windshields are both very soft, and very thin. They are also very expensive, $2k+, with a very long wait time. I've been running Alchemy Exoshield on my windshield for 2 years after finding out how weak they are first hand.

Good enough that I plan to run it on every vehicle I own from here on out, assuming I can always find an installer, and that nothing better hits the market.
I've got about 12k miles on this current one, and it has weathered some massive impacts from rocks/metal being slung at me from 18 wheelers. One of the hits that left a noticeable impression on the film was a solid object about 2in wide that struck me while traveling around 80mph. Sounded like a gun shot, but just left a small blemish on the film. Considering the fact the I got a starfish from debris that was significantly smaller, prior to getting the film installed, I'd say that the $300 I paid for the film has saved me at least as much in insurance deductibles, and so much more in avoiding the hassle, as I'm sure I'd have had to replace my windshield at least once already otherwise.

Laminated windscreen option?
I wonder if there is a laminated windscreen option - this would further reduce noise, provide UV and heat protection, and optimise AC operation.
In the UK, companies like Autoglass provide excellent options and fitting services that meet original specifications reliably but may not be OEM.
This is critical as the OE glass is calibrated for on-board systems and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), such as cameras, rain sensors, antennas and heating elements (is this why it is thinner?)

I am now using Exoshield instead of Clearplex and find it to be the superior product. It has far better optical clarity and zero distortion. I can highly recommend it but make sure you find an experienced installer as it is crucial.

I'm getting PPF put on my car and pricing was pretty competitive, the front clip was $1500. However, when I asked about exoshield, materials and installation was $700, Sounds like @ocrbolg got a deal or my installer is trying to make a bundle

I swear when anyone sees the Star, the price goes up! When I have tradesmen come (electric, painter, plumber etc) I park my car out of sight to avoid MB driver tax......it's fawking ridiculous.

The star tax is break compared to the "wings" tax. Talk about having to hide a car from tradesmen, try a Bentley. And, the windshield on my Bentley was $6,000, dealer only option, so $2500 is coming in at quite a savings for me.
Does the exoshield option have to be added to a new ws only? Mine is pretty pitted up.

Having had both clearplex and ExoShield on different cars, I'd say ExoShield is superior with less optical distortion. However, windshield protection is really a wear and tear item, use wiper once, they starts to deteriorate quickly, lifespan is around 2 years max.

I am on my 2nd sheet of Exoshield and I would not recommend it. Had it on my my CLK63 and it kept delaminating. It would first get scratched up with wipers and maybe several months after the top layer would start to haze up. If you use your wipers then they won't last. I had to change them out every 6 months or so and it was just not worth the effort or cost.

The frustrating thing is that if you drive the car, this kind of stuff happens to the most careful of us. Roads are roads. They are full of sand, rocks, loose gravel, etc etc. Just is what it is. I have kept my distance, more than 200ft and still...BAM!!! Rock. I have been driving before, NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME, NOT ONE, and out of the blue, BAM!! Rock. Blows my mind and the Murphy's law behind it is so aggravating.
Can be lessened by avoiding highways and construction zones. But then you get the occasional ladder or lawn chair sitting in the lane as you are going 80mph.
