Question GT S maintenance costs for one year?

I just tallied up my maintenance and repair costs for last year. Looks like it cost ~$5k keeping the GT S running. About 40% went it to fixing broken trim, 20% into tires, 40% into service.

How does that compare to your typical annual upkeep for your GTs?

The full breakdown is here on my blog.

I've spent about $5.5k total over the last 3 years (20k+ miles) for service, tires, etc.

@Orcbolg @AMG 17GT Wow, okay, sounds like I've got the high-maintenance car! Next year will be another big one for me too, as I'll need front tires and brakes.

It sounds like you are adding costs covered by your extended warranty. You might want to detail that for others to compare to…

My experience

Ahh I bought my GTS a few months ago and already spent 4k on a new exhaust, 1500 on a new battery and am planning for new tires and rear rotors/pads. This alone will exceed your 12 month expenses!

True. The $2k for the glass roof shade and the rear view mirror were covered by extended warranty.

I mean, if we are adding mods, then my total is significantly higher. I don't consider mods maintenance items though.

oh no no. The exhaust was due to the flaps in mine failing. The battery on mine is 8 years old and was starting to give me issues. The tires and rotors are maintenance though

Oh! My apologies then, I thought you just upgraded the exhaust for fun. That's such an expensive fix for such a simple part failure. I'm hoping that by never closing the valves I can keep that particular issue at bay.

No worries at all. Yeah it’s expensive and I agree keeping the valves open is my plan too.

For other mods, the car is getting Xpel stealth paint protection put on as we speak and that cost would double the amount I’ve spent!

The rear rotors seem super expensive. Have you found Mercedes-equivalent rear rotors (in terms of quality) that aren't $1k per side?

I know right, I haven’t really been doing my research yet as I probably won’t get them until next month. But, have you used the website FCP euro before? Apparently they have a program where you can buy wearable items like brakes/rotors, use them up and send them back and they send you new ones. No, I don’t know how they make money like that but apparently it’s their guarantee. I was debating buying the OEM brake kit from them, it includes 2 rotors and pads for 2500$. But, if this program is true than I could use up these rotors and pads, send them back and get new ones after a couple track days/ auto crosses.

Ha, I have heard of the FCP program and even bought some parts from them for the very reason. However, I've not returned anything yet for refund...

I'm also considering the Mercedes brake kit from FCP for the exact same reason. But, I like trying new cars and I doubt I'll keep the GT S for more than 2 rear rotor refreshes. Thus, if I can find good rear rotors for $500 each I'd go that way instead. (The front rotors from Brembo are about $500 at FCP....why the Mercedes rears cost more I don't know!)

Do you happen to know the minimum thickness for the front and rear rotors? They appear to be 36mm front and 26mm rear when new...but I'm not sure what the replacement measurements should be.

Hi,

For the GT Brakes, OEM Manufakturer is Brembo.
Brembo discs are much cheaper to get and correspond to the MB parts except for a part number printed on the braking surface. (1 x brakes = past)

Front
390mm steel, Brembo Partnumber: 09.9313.33
360mm steel, Brembo Partnumber: 09.A945.33 (Only GT)

Rear
360mm steel,
Brembo Partnumber: 09.C128.33
360mm steel,
Brembo Partnumber: 09.B879.11 (Stock on GT. Same dimensions as above, but not floating)

Best regards

Stenzel

@Stenzel-Germany Do you know who makes the OEM brake pads, and what the part numbers for pads would be? Thanks!

Hi,

MB often has Pagid. But assume that the GT also has Brembo pads installed. (Not verified)

I have often installed Brembo pads in other MBs and was realy satisfied.

If I had steel discs, I would test the Brembo pads. Think, (one manufakturer) that fits. But I have no experience here.

Pads steelbrake front. 360mm (only GT)

Brembo Partnumber: P50 154

Pads steelbrake front. 390mm

Brembo Partnumber: P50 142

Pads steelbrake rear 360mm (all)

Brembo Partnumber: P50 125

Best regards

Stenzel

yup I see Stenzel answered your question on thickness. Here is the kit I was thinking about -

imagine you’re looking at the same thing? Keep me posted on if you find a good alternative on rotors.

The OEM brake pads on my ‘18 GTR were Pagid on the front and Brembo rear. (I’m almost 100% certain of this although that may be reversed; however most definitely it was a mix of manufacturer).

Hi thebishman,

Think that Mercedes has several OEM manufacturers for the same parts to secure the supply chain.
If a manufacturer is no longer able / willing to deliver. (Strike, bankruptcy, burned down, no longer interested, no longer agree with the price dictate, etc.)
Had it with other MB spare parts. Same part number, different manufacturer.

The 2017 MB OEM numbers for all GT brake pads with steel discs:

Front:
Code U70, (390mm) : A007 420 65 20
Code B06, (360mm) : A007 420 47 00

Rear:
Code U70 and B 06, 360mm : A008 420 11 20

Best regards

Stenzel

From what Stenzel posted, it looks like we can use the GT (not GT S) rear rotor if we like, the Brembo 09.B879.11. These are only about $130 each, but they aren't a floating disc. (I think for street use it would not matter?)
Amazon Amazon

I also see that Girodisc (https://www.girodisc.com/Rear-Rotors...GT_p_6851.html) and RacingBrake (https://racingbrake.com/mb-irk-12/) have some options for us. Both are ~$1300 for a pair ($650 each), which is about 60% of the cost of the genuine Mercedes stuff. I'd imaging that these two would hold up better to extreme use (track) than the OEM because they are true two-piece setups with aluminum hats.

I'm not sure which way I'm going.

This is great, thanks for sharing. Essentially could save you 50%. Does anyone have experience with any of these aftermarket rotors? I want to be sure this isn’t a “you get what you pay for” scenario. Ideally the OEM rotors are just stupid expensive and any of these options would work. I am planning to take my gts on track once or twice (def not going hard on it though. Just to experience it on track)

I do my own work, so an oil change is under $100 and the trans service cost me about $350 (including an adapter)

I run all season tires on my GTS since its my daily. I pay just under 1100 for a set.
