Emergency vehicle sire whooping noise in car?
3 times since I bought the car, I have been driving down the road at normal speed and all 3 times it has been in congested town areas here in SF Bay area. Suddenly inside the car, I will get this insane klaxon/siren type blast that lasts for about a minute. All 3 times it has come out of nowhere and has scared the hell out of me. There is a voice speaking and I THINK it is giving a warning about an "emergency services vehicle" in the area. It is really hard to hear the voice and it takes about 5 seconds to realize it isn't FBI HRT about to snag me for some reason. Twice it happened when I could see an ambulance and once when there was a deputy in Woodside on the side of the road doing paperwork (not a speed trap)
Is this a Mercedes thing or maybe the custom radar detector/laser scrambler or whatever they are called? I keep mine turned off for the most part.
Finally I did briefly read about something in Europe where some cars have some ability to monitor for emergency vehicle communications- It didn't seem to apply to me so I didn't read too much of it. It is really pretty insane and distracting it is so loud it sounds like an ambulance is inside the car.
Any ideas? I'll see if I can find the write up about emergency vehicles in Europe UK
I am wondering if there is something like this installed or if Mercedes has it and I just haven't seen it while reading the manual.

You should be able to turn the alerts off on your phone. Somewhere. Mr. Google can help, if necessary.
I was surprised the first time this happened to me. I made sure the first time was the last time.

Thanks I thought it was amber alerts too and I checked there was nothing on the phone nor was the phone going off. Weird right? The 2 times with the ambulances both were doing the lights and sirens and the alert came before I could actually see them in traffic.
Maybe I angered someone and they decide to give me random moments of terror in my car

Try to turn your phone's alerts off and see if that helps.
Can't hurt!

I do there is a custom radar/laser detector and laser dazzler (not sure what those are called) installed. I believe it is K40 I need to root around and take a look and see what is installed. I also recently had a Blackvue DR900X with battery backup installed. It can't be the Blackvue as that was just done this weekend.
It is really weird it is literally a very loud whoop whoop tone (a little different than amber alert) I'll tried to hear exactly what it is saying. I do know it does mention emergency vehicles.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I just checked it was already off and remembered had turned it off years ago. However, emergency gov't alerts was still on as well as Public Safety Alerts.
I am guessing it is the public safety alerts and the Emergency broadcast alerts. So I turned them all off see if it happens again.
So yet another brain-dead user interface (among sooooo many, these days) ... deliver, what could be, a life-critical alert (e.g., a tsunami) using a mechanism that may show only part of it (i.e., on a locked-phone's screen) and/or may appear to "go away" when you touch the message to read it (which may be dependent upon your setup) ... making it "almost useful" to so many people. <end of rant>

Thank you again! And thanks to others who pitched in. I do hope it works (I think it will) because when that noise comes for like 2-3 seconds. It is pretty startling. I'd rather a grenade go off nearby

1. I hate that it just comes out of nowhere and I have no idea what is going on
2. I hate that so far it has scared the mess out of me and makes me screech like a 3rd grader in a haunted house.
3. My biggest fear is it will happen in front of my partner and she will hear me squeak and I'll have to live with her never looking at me the same way again. I mean what attractive 37 yr old woman wants a semi well groomed Yeti, that shrieks-farts when he gets scared?
