First Drive and Check Engine Light Come On
Well I took delivery of my 2019 GT with 9,500 miles - got back into town - took her for a spin 25 miles in Check engine light pops on. It’s under warranty and CPO but dealership does not have an opening till June 2 fro service.
Since it is my first GT AMG are check engine lights a common occurrence? With only 9.5k miles I was frankly surprised.

Park it in front of their dealership with a sign on it saying" Hope your POS Mercedes doesn't break down as the halfwits here cant even look at it for 2 weeks".

If you can get the fault code(s) read it might be something simple and maybe you can avoid the dealership visit. With a check engine light (these are powertrain codes) most any scan tool will read them. There are about 400 plus P-codes and any one or combination could have set the CEL, so guessing is not really an option here.
If you don't know of anyone with a scan tool, you can go to most any parts store in your area - Autozone, O'Reilleys, Napa, etc. and they typically will read it for you cost free. If/when you can get the fault(s) bring them back here. We can either solve it for you, or at least you'll know how serious an issue is with which you're dealing. It can also tell you whether you should just park it until June 02, or it might not be serious enough to worry about it. At least the light, I'm guessing is not blinking? But steadily on? That's a little helpful in itself.
The parts stores will read the code(s) for you, but they will not delete them.
All the Best,

To answer your question, no, CEL isn't common with the AMG V8. Many CEL warnings are emissions related and it can be tripped by things as simple as the fuel cap not being tight. If it happened shortly after you filled up, that would be the first place to start. Retighten the cap until it clicks a couple of times. Nothing more embarrassing than rolling up at your dealership and them finding you didn't tighten the gas cap enough. The general consensus is that if the CEL is blinking then the issue is more serious such as a misfiring cylinder, whereas a solid CEL is usually not a major issue and you can keep driving. It may even go out on its own after a few miles if whatever tripped it clears and doesn't occur anymore. The advise above is solid. Since there are so many reasons that can trigger the CEL, you should read out the codes so you know what triggered it and then go from there. If you don't have your own OBDII tool you can stop at any AutoZone etc. and they'll read out the codes for you.

I hear ya. On my first drive in my 16 GTS with 19k miles I threw a CEL too. My car is under CPO warranty too and mine was exhaust related and was not covered my CPO warranty. (I was pissed!). Had to change the exhaust entirely and all was fine afterwards.
A few months later I got another check engine light due to a oxygen sensor. Swapped it out and all is well again. Would recommend you get a local independent mechanic who can troubleshoot for you so you don’t have to wait on the dealership. I’d only go back to the dealer if there is a serious engine or transmission related problem.
Either way with those hiccups what a fun car to drive!!

Any idea how old the gas is in the full tank (when you took delivery)? With only 9500 miles on it since 2019 it tells me it has been sitting around more than being driven and perhaps it has been used for very short drives only.
If the CEL on is due to codes that indicate misfiring's most inexpensive scanners will let you reset the CEL light, add Techron (or any high quality fuel/injector cleaner) to your full tank and repeat after it's empty and refill it again with fresh gas and more than likely your issue is gone.
When I got my car it had been sitting around for 1year + and I had my CEL come on. I did the same injector cleaning treatment and in the past year I have driven it about 12,000 miles without the CEL coming on again.
