Lots of folks are getting hung up on the exhaust note these days. Not just with the BS, but recent facelifted and new AMGs in general. That ship has sailed and they will get even quieter. Having driven the BS on the Nürburgring, the exhaust note is the last thing that comes to mind. I know it's artificial to some extent, but AMG pipes real exhaust sound into the cabins now. Driving it, it sounds amazing even with a helmet on. Just a bit muted outside. However, US spec versions of current AMGs including the BS don't have the particulate filter anyway. I have not heard a US spec BS to compare to the EU spec one. Personally, I actually prefer the "new" AMG sound w/o the annoying pops&bangs that serve no purpose. Explosions in the exhaust just don't sound good to me. Always makes me think the car is misfiring.

My bigger issue with the BS was that it has the most conservative ESP of any recent AMG I've ever driven. We were not allowed to turn it off or even put it in Sport Handling mode, which made it neuter the car in every corner and you couldn't power the thing out of darn turn, even in RACE mode. In retrospect I should have just put it in Sport Handling at a minimum. It was the worst car we drove that day with ESP on. Needs to be driven with ESP off and just rely on the 9-stage traction control. We got taxi runs at the end, fully strapped in with 4-point harness and Hans device with one of the instructors behind the wheel. The run was so amazing I forgot to ask the instructor what level he kept the traction control at, but it had just the right amount of slip out of every corner. This is a car that belongs on the track. I don't know what folks do in the USA with them other than looking at them, but I'd get one if I lived in Germany near the Nürburgring.

The proven thing is that you Don’t like being subordinate and when a gem like Acta contributes you see it as an aside. He is a real asset and your are the ***.

It's all going to come down to personal preference, but having heard multiple GT BS in person now, I can say with absolute confidence that it is a major letdown for me personally, as exhaust note is a major aspect of driving enjoyment for me. And yes, I will always get hung up on exhaust note, as I flat out won't purchase something that doesn't sound good to my ears, and which is one reason I refused the BS that was offered to me.

I looked at a BS in Daytona recently and it did not seem worth double the price of my AMG GTR

.... so now i have an R8 Spyder and an AMG GTR, two cars for the price of one BS.

Hi,

Please cool down. Why is this escalating so needlessly?

Acta is one of only few, who has a great technical Backround. He very often uses this (which always takes time) to help people.

Find respect better, than unnecessary hostility. ;-)

Personally, I don't think the "sound" of the BS is that great either.
If it gets louder, it's not necessarily better either.
It,s just depends on the firing order. There will also be people who find the sound better. It's all just a matter of taste.

There is a video from Opus showing a GTR Pro and a BS running back to back on the same dyno. The difference is already significant.

Ultimately, the BS is an ingeniously designed car.Appearance, sound a.s.o. is not the focus. He has to be fast. And he is fast. :-)

Kind regards

Stenzel

I meant it as a general comment not directed at anyone specific. His moniker suggests that anyways.

While I have been disappointed with the sound, I am not disappointed with the Black Series at all. The car is a complete weapon and is the pinnacle of track engineering from AMG...... until they release the ProjectONE.

The sound issue stems from the fact that for so long AMG has been pulling some voodoo black magic out of their engineers to get their cars to sound so good. The 4.0 in the GT is a great example, this turbo engine should not sound like it does.

I don't buy the idea that flat plane engines don't sound good. There are too many examples of flat plane engines that sound great. For whatever reason, as outrageous as the Black Series is, the exhaust is just conservative.

To each their own.

We don’t need to invest lots of money in new downpipes and removing the cats, we just need to develop a new high quality interior sound recording.

There's also the issue that many tracks have implemented noise limits. The Huracan STO is a good example of a track car that you can't actually drive on many tracks, because it's too loud. At the Nürburgring for example they throw you off the track if you show up with an STO, or pretty much any Lambo for that matter.

Think of all the embarrassment that this policy is saving. The STO is a beast but in my experience the Lambo brand is not always the most track ready.

I had an 812 Superfast. It was glorious and all I had done was pin the exhaust flaps open.

I have considered experiencing one. The sound is visceral.

A fun “daily driver” is on my radar. Ideas?

An old boss of mine threw me the keys to his. The sound from that V12 quite literally gave me goosebumps.

With 812 order banks closed, I'm quite confident that the 812 Competizione was the swan song of Ferrari's V12...and what a song it played!

I daily drove the 812 for about a year. The 720S Spider also makes for a great daily.

I don't think they are done with it quite yet. Sounds like a V12 is in the new SUV.

I hadn't heard that. I was just assuming it would get the TT V8 they're using in the midrange cars.

Still don't know if it will be a hybrid or not but we will see. I hope they keep it around a while longer in some form.

It's hard to beat a NA V12 screaming along at high RPM.
