Whats up fellas... what is the best avenue for cleaning a black car?

To keep black scratch free is passable. You need to be very careful with everything you do. Washing, drying, waxing, etc. For washing use a quality wash mitt. For shampoo use Sonus or 1Z Perls gloss shampoo, for drying use a Sonus ultimate drying towel.
Washing kit from Autopia
For polishing any swirl marks I like 1Z polishes. They work great by hand or if you have or are going to get a Porter cable buffer, they work even better.
1Z Polish kit
Fro wax I like the Glanz wax (which comes with the showroom kit) or Klasse All In One and their Sealant glaze.
Klasse Sealants
Make sure to use "Quality Micro Fiber towels" Like SONUS Micro Fiber Towels
I use the buffing towels for polishing and removing waxes and sealants.
Here is a great detail guide which will help.
Download Detailing Guide from Autopia
Just download, install and register with your email for future updates and sales notices.
Here is a car I polished and removed a lot of swirls.

The PC 7424 is "idiot proof" That is why it's so popular. It wont burn through pain, it wont pull moldings off and it wont make more swirls. It a Dual Action buffer NOT a rotory buffer. The rotory buffers are the ones that have the bad rap with paint damage.
Go for it! you will never polish by hand again. I Promise!!
Autopia has the Sonus pad and PC kit on sale for $179.00 it comes with the Sonus pads(Orange,Green,Blue, and black, plus two micro fiber bonnets and the backing plate.)_ plus now they are giving a free bottle of Sonus paint cleaner,Ive never tried that polish before but all the other sonus stuff I use are my favorites. If you installed the Detailing guide you have a lifetime 10% discount in it. Its on the page when it opens.

~One mans opinion / observations~

Jon440- good advice
Mr Clean Auto Dry I’ve found that it leaves a ‘film’ (especially noticeable on black/dark colours)
If hard water spots or calcium is a problem in your area check out this filter unit http://www.pngazette.com/gardenhosefilter.htm

~Hope this helps~

Water Filtration:
To provide spot-free vehicle washing and/or to remove chemicals and chlorine from your vehicle washing hose. Utilizing standard softener resin, with a life span of approx. 90 gallons between regenerations, the filter cartridge (PN PW-SOF) is contained in a clear polyurethane filter housing (9.75-inch x 2.5-inch) allowing you to see when the filter requires changing, unit connections are standard ¾-inch hose fittings.

The filter resin can be regenerated indefinitely using readily available water softening salt. Place the used cartridge in a container with the water softening salt / water solution and soak for 12-hours or more. The salt will displace the calcium replacing it with sodium (http://www.pngazette.com/gardenhosefilter.htm)

~Hope this helps~
