I definitively need to install my new intercooler that I have waiting at home, but had no time yet, maybe next week I will install it and also the new turbocharger GT2256
i'm not very skilled in all things turbo, but have you considered a water spray onto the intercooler? like a high performance petrol turbo car sometimes has? i have heard of auto activated ones, that run the pump based in intake temp. you can use a windscreen washer motor and a windscreen washer bottle for the water supply.

I've installed the new intercooler and turbo, I didn't measured intakes yet but, surely they are lower.

But now I have a new problem, water temp is rising to fast when I push hard, so I have to slow dow rigth away!
I don't know if its caused by the bigger turbo (more hot oil) or the bigger Intercooler that causes less area to cool at the water radiator!

I have the car stopped for now because I'm on vacations, but I will change the radiator water with new anti-freeze liquid to see the changes, and surely a oil radiator, after I figure out where to connect the oil line!!

I have adjusted turbo little more.
When it reach 2,5bar boost, EMP is only 2,2bar now.
Also air mass amount is good.
Cooler seems to have hard times.
Outside temperature was ~20C.

Only a couple mods more, and car begins to be ready for reprogramming.

Curves are good, very good.

Red = boost
Green = rpm
Blue = air mass
Yellow = intake air temp

Very impressive, I am having fun just thinking of what you could do with an E280 CDI 6-speed manual.

Hello, for a long time.

Reprogramming is done and car dynoed.
When fuelling is adjusted to “smoke level”, the power is exactly same as earlier.
Max power comes 4200rpm ->, as earlier.
Max torque 500nm, is in same revs, as earlier, ~3000rpm.

Boost is now 2,5bar, EMP same or lower all the time.
Measured amount of air is ~double to stock, more than earlier.
Charger is “on the map”, and so are injectors.

More fuelling means only more smoke, no more power ??

This is not fun any more.

Sounds like its time to get more aggressive cams to increase volumetric efficiency.

Do you have any idea, intake, or exhaust cam, or both ?
I am buying a new cylinder head, and some mods there.

I don't know. There is nobody modifying CDIs in the states beyond simple off the shelf flashers. Understandable considering the only CDIs available are a $55,000 car and a $28,000 cargo van.

Like any true hot-rodder, its up to trial and error.

You are a bit off with the price reference. Taking this is a C200CDI wagon, I believe from 2003 with pretty good European car tax, I estimate the car price at about $65 000 with stock equipment (assuming 1.42 currency ratio), the owner may give accurate figures. You should be safe doing the same for a US E320CDI or Bluetec then.

This, my car was 50 000€, when I bought it, as new.
My car is almost cheapest.
They are very expensive also here.
I wasn't very wise...

Yes, maybe 240D... is right...
Maybe I have only more boost now, and real amount of air is still same, that it was earlier.
More air depends only MAF-sensor information.
I was told. that I cannot trust it any more in this case.

Maybe the reason has been all the time, that I cannot get enough air into engine.
So, I try to have head and cams ported and try to do something to inlet manifold.

Just now, I feel very stupid and I don't like that car at all.

368lb-ft of torque from a 4-banger CDI is nothing to be ashamed about. Thats as good as the upcoming 2.1L OM651.

Yes you can.
But..
It needs reprogramming, because AMG injectors gives far too much fuel with original program settings.
You will need very big turbo to get some real benefit about AMG injectors.
There is no "plug and play" upgrade turbo for your car.
With some mods, the older model of 320cdi,s (vacuum controlled) turbo fits.
With bigger cooler, that gives little extra power even with orig. injectors.
Maybe I recommend that alternative for you...

Hope this helps you...

Thanks for the answer. I understand that it is necessary for me reprogramm ECU, to replace a turbo and intercooler. But i don't know what's turbo is better 2359 or bigger?
And what minimum size to intercooler? In my car i have Distronic, and i don't have enough place under the hood. Maximum 54x25x10.
Cats and EGR already deleted.
How I can increase capacity to 280-300hp?

If you want to fit anything else, than 320cdiŽs charger garrett gt2359, there comes a lot of troubles with.
Ask LOB.

320cdi charger is good for ~200kw.
And what it is about 300hv, I am just learning it for myself.

AMG injectors are very easily capable of that power in your car.

And if you think, that cooler is some kind of trouble.... maybe you donŽt know yet so much of troubles...

Station c200CDi - 2003
Hello, all.

I see you guys are all technicians in the upgrading of the Merc brand. as a Merc owner, of course I'm interested in these subjects. One thing comes to my mind, tho. I own a 2003's W203 C200CDi station wagon diesel, with 122 PS stock. So, exactly what do I need to do to get those 200 PS out of her? Is this without smoke? I take it the MPG would get better??? I believe (and I may be wrong) the compressor is a fixed geometry one. Would I have any improvement in the above items if I installed a G22 variable geometry compressor from a 3.0 Sprinter Merc, plus an intercooler upgrade and a remapping? What would be the figures I could expected? Remember I don't want no smoke, and I'm from Portugal, so I wouldn't be able to take her to any of you genious. Please bare with me, most of the talk on this thread I don't understand.

Thank you so much.

Ah, good to see a double row chain in there. Too bad VW can't figure out how to do that.

New cams works very well. (260/260, 9,5mm lift, orig. ~2X210, 7,7mm lift)
Engine pulls fine from idling -> 5000rpm.

No more power.
Maybe little more torque, thats all.

Still something limits the power.
Only head porting undone any more...
Well, IŽll try that.
If that does not help, IŽll give up.
I am tired to work very hard to make new parts work well, and still reach only the "old" level.

Hopefully porting works. The CDIs aren't as gifted in the port size department as the old OM606 was.

You sure work fast though!

This is not unusal for MB. My sold 1986 560 SEL, a single OHC engine has dual timing chains. I believe the Chevy small block has the same setup. Does it offer additional protection if one breaks?
