M278 engine

You probably know this:
'12 E550 has the same basic engine (m278) which was tuned to 429hp/518 ft lb in the CL. Brabus can tune the CL m278 to 520 hp/604 ft lb

But goodbye warranty (in the US)

You won't lose your warranty if Brabus do the tuning, it will just have a restricted mileage on it - mine was 3 years/unlimited mileage but now it's 3 years/60k miles. There's also restrictions on when the tuning can be done and warranted, on mine it has to be done within 2 years/18k miles of registration to retain the warranty.

I think the lower power output in the 207 E is because of the breathing of the engine but don't quote me on that, I think that you could quite easily see 500+ bhp with a Brabus tune up.

I didn't know that about Brabus: makes it tempting. Thanks for the info.
Need to research a limited slip too at those power levels.

What kind of money does Brabus get for a fuel remap and boost bump?

No problem! I'd be very interested to see the gains made if anyone with a new 4.7l 550 goes down the Brabus route, getting the urge to place an order.

Over here a Brabus power box costs anywhere between £1650 and £2200 depending on what the dealership want to charge you, the basic price for the box itself is £1650. So I'd guess that it would be a similar amount, maybe $2000? It's one of those where you'd have to ask the dealer's parts department to see how much it is and what they would be willing to do for you.

I know for certain that when the parts become available (so check the Brabus press releases/website often) you can order the cars from the factory with the relevant Brabus options provided your dealer want to allow you to spec that - over here some are funny about it (they'll tell you that you can't order it directly from factory, wait until it has arrived then order the part and pay for the labor for the dealer to have it fitted), best thing to do is to look in the Brabus catalog when it is updated for the M278 upgrade on the 207 E and quote the Brabus part number to your dealership then they will be able to give you a price for a factory order or fitting through the dealership. If anyone here is wanting to have any Brabus tuning done remember to get the certificate of the work carried out as this will ensure that you keep your warranty, it can be reproduced but may take some time.

Posted in the C63 forum...
"It would be nice if MBZUSA certified the Brabus ECU upgrade not to void your warrranty as they do in the UK"

But I spoke with BrabusUSA and they said the Brabus warranty would kick in to cover: more details to come.
They also said the Brabus upgrade for the '12 E550 should be available after the first of '12.

Nice It would be stupid for Brabus upgrades to not be warranted since MB have a major shareholding in Brabus!

Thought you might be interested in Brabus' pricing for their PowerXtra CGI kits for the CL & S M278 engines.

For the S500 and the CL500, Brabus offers the B50-490 PowerXtra CGI performance kits. The module plugs into the 4.7-liter V8's engine control computer and boosts power to 490 hp, up from 435 hp, and torque to 575 lb-ft. The Brabus B50-490 kit costs $7,190.

If that's not enough go, Brabus offers the B50-520 PowerXtra kit, which takes power to 520 hp and torque to 604 lb-ft. In combination with the Brabus Vmax unit, this bumps top speed to 188 mph. The Brabus B50-520 kit costs $8,658

I know: ouch! But also wondering if that includes the warranty cost.
