2014 Matte Black G550
Mods to E550 Cab.

I am currently in an E550 - it has a good rumble, but if I wanted more of the AMG rumble -- Would taking off the resonators achieve that. I have read forms that suggest there is a drone. However, all of the start ups I have watched on you put and acceleration are from different models, CLA, CLS etc. I was wondering if anyone had done this on the new 550?? If so, could you post a link to a new 550 start up and acceleration.

I would also like to put in the Full LED Headlights, I read some threads that said they have to rewire the car etc. I am not looking for it to be adaptive as I just like the look of the DRL, and the Lights at night, Blinkers. I can control the High beams myself. Does anyone have any insight to the plug and play capability... With Adaptive not being something I care about.

THANKS

KSAX.

The best way to do HID is to make it a factory job which is expensive as a retrofit. HID kits off the internet are *NOT* the way to go as you take a beautiful car like you have and cheap it down. There is a lot of technology in the new LED ILS system on the E550 and you can't separate the technology from the headlight. Its pretty much all or nothing.

Search resonator in this forum. You'll find multiple posts with pics, sound bytes, and other info. From the posts, there seems to be good results from removing the E550 resonators.

I would recommend removing both sets of resonators. Replacing them with an x pipe, to a straight pipe, to the mufflers. This gives you a great sound comparable to AMG cars.

Be careful what advice you take from Barca93, as he has the older NA 5.5L V8 so he has zero experience with these types of mods in the 4.7L BT which is a completely different beast.

Haha seriously whats your problem? You have issues bro. And many other fourm members have done the exhaust setup I have done with the biturbo engine...
check Aznxkickers build thread.

. Not the same exact engine. I have the 2011 E550 cabrio that has a naturally aspirated V8. Your car has a bi turbo V8. But like I said other members on the forum have done the mod I told you about with the bi turbo V8. So it sounds good with either the naturally aspirated V8 or the bi turbo V8. Also the removal of both sets of resonators just un mutes noise.I like how it sounds with the x pipe set up because it helps refine the sound.

I just haven't heard one with the biTurbo engine. I don't want to do it and be unhappy. Can this be reversed? How much could I expect to pay? I just want the rumble and sound from the AMG, not a Mustang 5.0... Classy Exhaust that isn't over powering!

I would never use an X-pipe or cross-pipe on a turbo or supercharged engine.
It doesn't sound great IMHO and also reduces potential horsepower from my experience. The attached pic is before the cross-pipe (on the 2 engines) was removed and changed to straight pipes.
The cross over exhaust can blow back into the other bank from the supercharger or turbo pressure and add back pressure.

Looking at the biturbo exhaust changes on this forum, haven't seen any that used x-pipe or cross-pipe.
Aznxkicker used an x pipe with the Biturbo. Check his thread.

OK: I stand corrected. Doesn't mean I agree with the choice.

Yup, I agree with Barca. I have the 5.5 V8 and initially went with an X pipe, then went to straight pipes. The note is definitely quieter with the X pipe, but doesn't have such a "chug chug" leaky noise with the straight pipes. When I get to it, I'll probably put the X back in (but it doesn't bother me THAT much to immediately make the switch back). I do really enjoy the louder note at WOT that the straights provide.

My next mod is going to be KW Street Comforts to improve the stance.

2012 E550 Coupe
Check out this thread
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-c...ound-gtih.html

I used to have the 2012 E550 Coupe with biturbo engine (sadly I'm now in a 2014 650i GC) but removing the resonators will give you the sound you want. straight pipe it. You will get close to the AMG sound. No drone at all.

To OP,

My 2014 E550 came with the LED headlights. I just had a chance to drive the car in dark mountain roads to dinner, and I would humbly say that it is worth the price to retrofit if all possible.

All the LED light bulbs and motorized lens work as an orchestra, almost like a sophisticated light show. No wonder Mercedes proudly put the wordings "Mercedes Benz" "LED Intelligent Light System" inside each housing. (sorry for my poor resolution picture, hopefully we can see those wordings -- Mercedes on top light, LED Intelligent Light System on lower center.)

The whole light cluster throws so much light on the road, with natural color temperature, lights up the exact spots our eyes needed, and all without blinding other traffics.

It is also mesmerizing to watch how it works... like in daytime, if turn left using the turn signal, the left-side LED strips will fade out for the yellow turn signal bulbs to blink, and after the turn, the left-side LED strips will turn-on again in kinda slow-motion. Pretty neat.

My salesperson also told me that, the headlight we see in the cluster is actually not a headlight, but just a motorized lens that goes up, down, left, right and direct lights to the road. The LED sat behind it deep inside the housing.

Also the beautiful two-strips LED design is unique to the C207/A207 E-Class, which is nice as well.

Though Mercedes listed on its website that the LED headlight option is with 'limited availability", please check with your dealer about how to retrofit. I think you would like it.

Sadly? The new body style 6 series are sick! And thanks for starting that thread a while back. I used it as an alternative to spending a couple grand on exhaust and I'm very happy with the results!

I guess life is good if you can say sadly about owning a 6! The cars are very different, the E550C was a hell of a car, possibly the lightest V8 turbo out there. The car is stunningly quick, and the lightness of it makes driving it all the more of an occasion. The 6 is a stunning car, but is really catered to the older cruiser crowd. Its very quick, but the cabin is silent and its so big you float over everything. Both awesome cars, just very different!

Whats funny is that I almost pulled the trigger on the 650i Conv. The dealership ended up being too greedy for me, so I just stuck with MBZ. That car has exceptional power!

Keep your resonators and have them welded back in place if you don't like the sound or if you sell/trade-in the vehicle

I got the resonator deleted and the guy at the place asked if I was going for the AMG sound. I explained to him exactly what I wanted. Also, I kept the pieces because he told me 60.00 to reinstall. I know this won't pass a visual SMOG but emissions yes. However, because the car is a lease the car will never have to be smog checked. It sounds better than expected. Here are the photos from underneath the car. If you are in Southern California I would be happy to refer you to him. Very Small Honest Shop. He works on MBZ and BMW. For the original Resonator Delete he was asking 60. He said the cats aren't really cats they are just resonators... So with the extra I wanted done it was 150.00. PM me your email address and I will send it over vid or sound clip, I don't know how to upload online!

why wouldnt you pass visual inspection? The two sets of resonators are just that? Do you have that exhaust leak sound/noise everyone talks about from the rear of the car when they go straight pipe? I'd love to hear your setup!

Awesome! I knew you would like it. And thats what I told you about removing BOTH sets of resonators. Because the ones that look like cats are also resonators. Did you go with straight pipes all the way to the mufflers?
