2012 E550 Coupe w/Harmon Kardon rattling noise rear panel
Hi Everyone, Just joined the forum. Just recently bought my 3rd MB. Picked up a 2012 White E550 coupe with pano roof, P2, and AMG package.
Love the car so far. I have the HK sound system and i'm hearing this annoying rattling noise coming from the speaker panel in the back of the car when ever the base hits even in moderate volume. I read a few things on the forum from a few years ago but didn't find a definite answer on the fix. I was wondering if anyone was able to fix this issue thru the dealer or a DIY.
Thank you for all the help and its great to be here!!

I have the same on my 2104 coupe and my 2010 sedan. I thought maybe it was the baby seat clips, but can't be for sure. I might try and just sit in the back while playing music to see if that really is the issue. I only hear the rattle during certain bass frequencies in my music.

its a common issue. problem is havent been able to find instructions online to disassemble the rear deck to narrow the issue. one key thing to check is whether the sun shade is causing it by raising it and seeing if the noise stops.
anyone got a rear deck removal procedure to share?

You can remove the perforated panel that spans the rear deck. It pops right off.
Use a plastic putty knife or buy the set of plastic trim removal tools from Harbor Freight.
Less than $10.
Be careful the panel is fragile.
The post about the rear shade rattling is also a good point.

E350 Coupe
ive been having this issue ever since i got my 2010 e coupe. been to the dealer 3-4 times with that problem. they keep removing the speaker panel and putting felt tape there. not much help, it comes back. the only way its less noticeable is when the shade is down. id learn how to live with it for now if i were you. i dont know if you'd be able to solve anything by removing the panel. the felt tape solution might work but i think you gotta put it in the right place. better just keep the rear shade down...

Just spoke with my MB mechanic and he said that this does happen to some of the E550's with the HK sound system. He said that he has fixed the issue before under the factory warranty so i'm hopeful he can fix my car also. I will be bringing in my car in the next 30 days and will provide an update once its done. In the meanwhile i'll just keep the volume down and enjoy the sweet sounds of the bi-turbo.

I have the same problem with my 2015 E550, I thought it was blown speakers, it turned out the rattle sound was caused by the sheet metal underneath the speakers. going to schedule an appointment to get it fixed.
