used 207 purchase

Hi,
I'm interested in 2010/11 coupe and th prices between e350 a e550 are not that far apart in Canada.
Fuel consumption is not a concern as I don't drive long distances.
Can someone advise if you prefer one of the other and why?

What are the typical problems on each of the cars?
What to look for when I check them out, more like a check list for both models.

Thank you.

If the price doesn't differ much, 550 all the way.

I wouldn't mind the power of the V8 for sure.
Is one more problematic over the other?

What are typical problems for these cars? Is there a used car guide available at all?

Thank you.

I've been long term mercedes fan and have had two oldies, still have my 71 W114 coupe which is the grand daddy to the C207 so I would like to stay in the family, :-)

very reliable vehicles. just have your mechanic check it over for frame damage and if not, you should be set. not one specific problem area that i know of. this vehicle is great!

No gremlins, no pain points, nothing that is typical problem with these vehicles
I would have hard time believing that is the case.

Wow, I didn't expect the backlash.
I didn't call anyone liers, that is your assumption.

I have had tons of cars and ALL had gremlins or pain points.
I do not believe that this one doesn't have any and that is what I am trying to find out from a forum like this so when I go and look for one I know what to look for.

I had no intentions to offend anyone.

I hope other chime in with more information.
Quick Google search points to many items from transmission to rattles to electrical issues but I thought the best is to hear directly from members in a forum like this.

Thank you

This is the problem with trying to draw a line based on several data points when there are hundreds of thousands of data points that you don't see.

If 5 people had an issue and talked about it on a forum, that does not necessarily mean all cars, or even a majority of cars have that issue or even that you are likely to have the same issue.

If there were a systemic problem, it would have been addressed by Mercedes in a service bulletin or a recall.

thanks for the clarification -- your post certainly came across the wrong way. instead of focusing on typical problem areas, it might be best to make a list of all complaints/issues you can find listed or complained of by whomever and hand that list to your mechanic to cross-check against. that way you have all your concerns addressed. you're not going to find a active forum member with a "common problem" just pop up on this thread and start detailing it without having previously complained about it on here to which you can freely search this forum for.

that said, im not aware of a common problem with the transmissions in these model years, i know the newer ones (7g tronic plus?) seem to have had problems with harsh shifting complaints but the older 10-11ish models are usually like butter.

Cool, i'm glad we are good, :-)

I will continue to browse the forum and the internet for typical pain points but I definately plan to take the car to Mercedes dealership for inspection before I buy it.
Better spend few hundred dollars on inspection than thousands later on repairs and I have done that before, don't want to do it again.

I have had many cars as I mentioned and I'm very car savvy (i've taken and rebuild the engine on my 71 W114 for example) BUT that doesn't mean i can't miss simple problems specific to the car model thus my questions here.

Here is one that I am looking for, visually looks excellent, the color is ok with me, kms are super low, price is good, everything checks out.
http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Mercedes-...O&orup=2_15_57

I plan to go and drive the car and again mercedes pre-purchase inspection before I buy it.

On another note, where can I find a list of the package options that were available for these cars? example: this one has amg appearance package, harmon logic 7 etc.

Thank you again.

p.s. here is my w114 coupe that I hope to match with C207 soon and have two pillarless coupes

Here is one example of a problem with the engines in the 350 and 550, this is exactly what someone needs to check before the buy and should be in the used car guide for these models.
It is a huge deal if one needs to pay for out of warranty purchased car.

The only issue I've had so far is front brake rotor warping, apparently pretty common, just search on the forum. Also, just in general with the 272 and 273 engines, I know that there is a flap in the intake manifold that goes bad on the regular. Fix involves having to replace the whole manifold. I've not owned a car with either of those engines (for that reason) so I don't have first hand experience with that issue. I'm sure there is a ton of info on here about that though.

On a positive note, I love my 550C (have a 2012 with the TT V8). Best of luck with the hunt!

Thank you,
When did the engine change from naturally aspirated to twin turbo for the 550? 2012 or the 2010 up?

Model Year 2012 E550 was the first twin turbo V-8 (M278).
