Driver's seat adjustability? 2012 E350 Cabrio

We just purchased a low mileage 2012 and not sure if the power seat for the driver's side is broken - or not. The passengers side - the back is able to move from a laid back reclining position to 90˚ upright and even more forward leaning.

The driver's side however, does not. It does move, the switch does something - but the furthest forward the seat back seems to be able to go is - maybe 120 degree angle and at that point the back will come no further forward. So it's a semi-reclined position all the time - not very upright. It cannot reach 90 - not even close. Is this wrong - or the way it works?

Absolutely something wrong. It should come close to upright.

Thanks for confirming - just wanted to be sure. Our extended warranty should cover this hopefully!

I just recently finished fixing my own seat. Same situation, the seat would only come up so far and was very uncomfortable position. I initially tried the reset procedure with no luck. So I took the seat back off and set the motor position manually. I'm thinking the seat was forced backward and caused the issue. The motor that reclines the seat has a sensor that counts the motor revolutions letting it know maximum position. Works fine now

Thank you, I’m looking forward to your solution to this issue. I bought my 2011 e350 cab two months ago and I didn’t realise that it’s an issue before reading this post.

How can I carry out normalisation and adaption function? Could you list out the procedures to do it? Thank you!

You will need a diagnostic tool like xentry. No manual way to do it

This is disappointing to know. My current driving position is so uncomfortable. I thought I could fix it myself without going to the dealership and pay a large amount of money to get it fixed. Thanks for the information anyway.

Unfortunately these are pretty complex cars where the seat control is all software driven. So you need complex tools to fix them! Diy repairs are becoming a thing of the past

Hi Russell, I still haven not brought my car back to the dealer for a fix. However, I just saw that there is a diagnostic tool called iCarsoft MB II. Have you come across with this scanner and do you know if this scanner is capable to resetting the seat reclining position? Thank you

I am not sure if that scanner has the capability to perform adaptation, maybe a member with such a tool can respond. I am sure there are aftermarket tools that can do the job though.

Connect your car to SDS and report back with faults relating to seat

Come on... If I would have SDS I would probably know how to solve that issue too. Unfortunately I don't have it. But I do have a "standard" OBD adapter. Would that help?

Just to let everyone know that fix was easy. New adaptation using SD.

Wow yeah , very accurate picture. Someone with solutions, only SDS works ? Or something else can be done

What is the reset procedure? How to set then the motor manually?
