Mercedes E400 convertible grille swap
Hello Guys,
just recently purchased myself a e400 convertible. I normally make subtle touches to my mercs. So far I have dechromed the sil around the windows, tinted the windows and blacked out the 19” alloys. The car is black and now looks very nice n sleek. Now the front grill has a chrome grille frame which looks awful. Does anyone know have any suggestions on what to do ? Love the new vertical grills but searched and can’t find them on eBay - do I just black the whole thing out ? can’t stand that frame. Anyone here with an e400 cabrio ? Also when the car is idle sounds weak. Gotta sort this merc out !

I had the flat silver area painted gloss black which aids in the appearance.
The entire grill pulls apart with some persuasion...

I liked Andrew's gloss black look for the horizontal fin so much that I broke down and pulled my grille again, removed the previous flat black finish, and resprayed it with gloss black. Getting those little chromed plastic front edge pieces off of the main fin is a real b*tch (the tabs break easily).
Unfortunately, the morning sun's glare in my picture doesn't make it look as good as the lighting/angle in Andrew's picture. I hate how the metal color of the radiator shows through the grille. Has anyone done anything to address that?
Now I'm wondering how it would look if the chrome surround trim was also black.

Plastidip is your friend if you don't want to buy new. I am going for a similar look. I have started my dechroming and did the grill this weekend. Wheels go black in a month (Shop is snowed under)
Just needs a small lowering.
