Is 2016 C207 fuel consumption really THIS bad?!

Hey all,

New 2016 E400 4Matic Coupe owner here, coming from a 2012 C350 4Matic Coupe. I expected from the posted numbers (10.8/7.1 -> 11.8/8.3) that my fuel consumption would go up a *little*, but after booting around for a couple days now in varying traffic situations, it's not uncommon for me to flip to check and see it at 20.0! I don't think I've seen it lower than 17-18 yet, when on the C350 it got to 14-15 on a *really bad* day, and typically sat in the 10-12 range.

Is this normal and expected?! Is there possibly something wrong with the car? Was there maybe some major update in how they reported the numbers in-car between 2012 and 2016? Or is it just that all the extra toys really do drive it up that high?

All in all I am still a VERY happy camper ... just curious what is going on with this. Thanks!!

Edit: Oh, and I've had it in "E" mode for 90% of the driving so far. :-/

Edit2: The VIN is WDDKJ6HB5GF320135 in case the options have any bearing on what I am seeing.

My typical commute from home to the office is about 10 miles in street traffic and another 10 miles in interstate traffic, which may or may not be stop-and-go at certain points. Driving in Eco mode, and with the A/C on for at least half of that trek, my average is about 24-25 MPG. If I lived near an interstate on-ramp and was fortunate enough to drive outside of rush hour (i.e., continuously free-flowing traffic), I could easily exceed 30 MPG. This car loves cruising on the open highway, but it HATES city traffic.

Just went to pick up some pizza, drove maybe 3 miles total there and back, hitting, I think 3 red lights the entire way, and clocked in at just over 12 MPG. Econo mode, air conditioning on, engine turning off at red lights, and doing 30-40 mph the entire trip. :-/

I'm heading out for a road trip tomorrow morning, so I'll catch up on any replies late next week.

Ok, you nailed it. Did some major highway driving yesterday and the consumption was lower than I could have imagined! I wish I had an exact number for the record ... I'll pay better attention on the way home and edit this post. Even the "since reset" highway/city averaged number is nice and low.

Yep, like I said, it hates city driving. It's a highway star.

Yep, ok, I am 100% in agreement now! It was just a couple short boots of city driving that got me all worked up, but in regular mixed driving it is single digit L/100KM which I NEVER saw on my '12 C350, and on long highway stretches I think I saw it in the mid-7s, which was even hard to achieve with my '11 2.0T A5 at 2/3rds the engine size, so I am very, VERY impressed with this car!! :-)

I have had the car for the past 3.5 years and it has constantly returned 11.5 litres per 100 kms. My driving is 100% city traffic.

.
U guys are all lucky. In my environment, crazy bumper to bumper traffic 95% of the time or super slow at crowded paid highway, 15.9 liter per 100 KM ( 6.28 km per liter ) is okey and common.
This is my driver driving the car, meaning light footed, unlike me heavy footed....
If me, I love any opportunity to red line at least 1st gear and if traffic allows also 2nd gear. Having a lively engine and not enjoying it , is a sin.
