Lightbulb Information about this problem

I had this same problem with my 2013 E350 Coupe. This is how this problem was resolved:

I researched the online forums to understand this common problem:

from BenzWorld forum

from MBWorld forum

I contacted the local Mercedes Service Department and spoke with the lead Service Advisor who explained that this was a common problem with the C207/A207 and W204.
He advised me to bring the car in for service. He tried to fix the problem by hitting the top of the steering wheel with his fist while holding the adjustment lever down to try to move the wheel. This did not work.

The car was then taken in for service in the service department and did the following service:
  1. Reset the steering-wheel adjustment via the MB StarTech system
  2. Applied the new SW noted in the TSB for this problem (see attachment below)
  3. Degreased and then re-greased the gears for the steering wheel adjustment
The service advisor also recommended that I deactivate Easy-Entry Feature (see attachment from MB owners manual below)

The Mercedes dealer, Mercedes of Fairfield (A Penske-owned dealership), did this service as complimentary (no charge) in hope of earning my service business. They also went through the car and could find nothing to fix. It was recommended that I would need a brake service for the front brakes in ~15,000 miles. I sent an email to the Service Manager thanking them for a great service experience.

There was a MB TSB on this problem (see attached photo)

SMG CT is very helpful! I have deactivated easy entry of all my cars for many years to reduce the wear and tear as suggested by the service manager above.

I am glad the information was helpful.

Did you turn-off the Easy-Entry option for the steering wheel?

I also deactivated the auto mirror folding on locking, for the same reason. I use the manual fold button if I wish to fold them. 😉

I had mine stay stuck in the upwards position, and I'm the type that will not pay someone to fix what I can do so I went to work on figuring it out. I could hear the motor attempt to move it, but nothing happened. I figured it was
like how some things, like elect windows, get stuck because they drive full force until stopped, then can't overcome the stiction to free it and go back. So I tried hitting the wheel a little but I hate pounding on expensive things
unless I can see it can take it, so I took the cover off for a look-c. I pushed the lowering lever and could see the flex shaft move under the torque of the motor, but the screw wasn't budging. I simply turned the drive shaft at the
yellow arrow with a tiny 4" adjustable wrench, aka "All-Sixteenths" to unstick it and it was fine. It was just barely tighter than the motor could drive so I bet hitting the wheel harder may have done the trick. After looking at it I
believe hitting upwards on the wheel would be the trick in freeing it because it would reduce the tension causing the excess stiction. Or maybe just pushing up on it, for a moment, with your thighs would do the trick?
It hasn't done it since and has maybe 500 cycles on it so far, but if it happens again we'll see. I don't want to disable it because that would be admitting defeat, and imo taking a car to dealer is also admitting defeat
The assy in the pictures (I found online) is upside down btw. So fyi to anyone interested:
