widest rear tire on stock 18" rear rims

So I was just told I need new rear tires on my 16 A207 sport. It has the factory 255/35-18's on it right now and I'm curious if I could fit 295/30-18's back there?
The height is the same, but they are a hefty 1.5" wider.

Thanks for the advice!

PS......I did a search and couldn't find anything with people running the stock 18in amg wheels.

I’m in the same boat with my ‘11 550 coupe. Based upon what I found, the 275/35 rears and possibly 245/40 fronts are the way to go from my setup. Not sure about yours, but I think that 295/30s May be another way to go.

Hope more chine in with suggestions and their experiences with bigger meats.

The widest I would go on the stock 18x8.5 wheels is a 265. A 275 will fit, but not very well.

You may be able to get a 275 mounted. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Tires with maximum tire width for wheel: 8.5 x 18

255/30R18
255/35R18
255/40R18
255/45R18
255/50R18
255/55R18
255/60R18
255/65R18
255/70R18

Thanks for all the info!
Think I'm gonna buy a used set of wheels/tires from a bigger e class. A guy on my local OfferUp has a set of same style rims/tires but the rears are factory 285/35/18 so I'm assuming they are 9.5" to fit them? then I could throw on the 295's and keep it "looking" factory.
Feel free to chime in if my "guesses" aren't correct on the fitment idea.

Love the car so far and am looking forward to learning more from everyone on here!

I added a VR tuner and am planning on a set of wiestec downpipes once my "toy fund" gets replenished a bit. haha.
I already get sideways quite a bit just from how I drive, so having some extra width in the back would be really nice. But I'd rather spend the money on performance and braking versus wheels and tires, going fast is first priority, followed closely by braking...haha.

Just replaced my 6 year old Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Positions (235/40 & 255/35 - UTQG “280 AA A”) with slightly larger Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss (245/40 & 265/35 - UTQG “300 AA A”). This is the largest size that the tire store recommended on the '11 E550 coupe's staggered stock 18" AMG wheels.

Heard good things about those Pilot 4S... How do you like them?

can’t say yet - just got them mounted this morning. Taking a 400 mile trip next weekend and should get a good feel for them.

The new tires felt great on my 400 mile trip to Carson City and back. In addition to freeway driving, a good portion of the trip was on Hywy 88, a two lane blacktop (plus several passing lanes). The trip goes front sea level across CAs Central Valley, up and over the Sierra (via the Carson Pass @ 8700ft) to the Carson Valley at 5300ft) . The new tires were a bit more stable than the tires I replaced (6 yrs old with 12K miles).

Just prior to the trip, I replaced the stock factory brake pads with Akibonos - the car has approx. 31,000 miles. Attached are some pics - in addition to the slightly larger footprint they also fill out the wheel wells nicely.

Any suggestions?

When I first drove it from the sop, the tires seemed to be very noisy. But it turned out that one of the rear quarters was cracked open. Closed it and the tires turned out to be fairly quite.

But then I tend to drive with my tunes (iPod w/ 350+ CDs) playing.

I have just replaced my tires with michelin Pilot P4s went with 265 in rear and 245 in front ,stock wheels. With the stock

wheels this is the about widest tire for the stock wheels per michelin. You can put a wider tire on the wheel but it won't

perform the same having less tire on ground with stock 18" wheels.I had bridgestone potenzas on it before and did not

like them poor traction ,very slippery on some roads .With the michelins its like a different car ,I have the pilots on my

911 also very satisfied with them .

2014 E550 Coupe Stock Rims bigger tires

Lots of sticklers about the max tire size for the stock 18 inch rims... I put Michelin Pilot Sport 4s' 245/40/18 on the front and 265/35/18 on the back with Zero issues no rubbing etc... Great grip, low noise. Speedo off by 2 mph.
