What mpg are you getting?

I'm maxing out at around 22 mpg (per the dash display) with mostly freeway driving. This is going an average of maybe 70-75 mph, maybe a little faster in some stretches. This is for a 2010 E550 Coupe. This is noticeably worse than my 2008 CLK550 (same exact engine and transmission, only very slightly lighter car) which got 25-26 mpg for the same type of driving.
Given that my CLK did so much better, I wonder if there's an issue with my E550? Maybe wheel bearings or something? Kind of odd.
The dash on my car doesn't measure the gas used, but seems to be estimating by using engine load. I'd imagine if something was wrong and it was using more gas, but same load, it wouldn't see that. Whatever the deal, my experience with any car with a dash readout is it's just a guesstimate that can be anywhere from very close to very wrong.

So on pump gas the dash is reading ~22% high. Not sure how much longer I'll run pump gas but I will track it if I do. My usual of ~50% Ethanol the dash reads ~45% high.
The live reading is even worse, I believe, because if I do find a rare stretch of flat ground it reads ~30. There are basically no flat spots where I live so flat to me is some fraction of a degree up/down, but that fraction of a degree makes a big difference in the reading. I've used GPS to see how flat my nearest flat spot is, but gps is worse at elevation than my dash is at mpg, so I guess I'll never know what the angle is.
