2014 E550 Cab, pristine with 40k miles
truck turned to soon in parking lot and damaged front end.
my concern mostly is the front wheels being turned while off and locked.
love the car but concerned on future gremlins.
Have great first class Collision center that mostly does nothing but high end and exotic autos
They fixed my last CLK that same thing happened too

it sitting in a parking lot when driver of the dually truck next to me just turned immediately when pulling out. Didn't look or see my car next to him.
Was barely moving but didnt here or feel it soon enough.. Are you saying to move the car would equivalent force of being hit at 35mph?

It'll be fine. They may replace steering rack and some control arms but cosmetically will be fine. Not a total. Beautiful car and I love e550's
fight to fix it and retain this car it's a beauty; if anything is buggy after the fox keep pushing the insurance company to get it perfect
insurance companies have been totalling cars recently for less. depends on whose inspecting it.
personally if it was my car and the accident was my fault i would just fix it and not even mention it to insurance.

If the insurance company elects to total it, ypu could buy it from them (usually for far less than book value) and get it fixed yourself. The question is what lurks beneath the surface.
another option is to see if the yacht company would agree to have it fixed outside of insurance to save them the ongoing increase in premiums.

Well no structural damage and they Chub Insurance, are insistent on totalling,claiming only worth 24k which is wholesale value with no tax or fee considerations

have you presented your comps to them? When I had a similar situation (albeit not with Chubb), the insurance company was open to negotiation on value based on the market. The challenge with the E550 (and the Lexus SC430 I was dealing with) is that there are so few, it's hard for the insurance companies to assess an accurate value.

Of course they are going to low ball at first but hold your ground and say nothing and accept nothing. Look up similar cars ( mileage/color/options/warranty), print them out and send it to them and let the game start

I did send them comps at 31k which is when they came back at 25 vs 15.
It's so ridiculous they are trying to limit comps to within 50 miles of my location (Tampa)
I suspect they are getting a sweet deal from Copart and trying to come out ahead.

Would be a great salvage and repair vehicle but I don't want a salvage title just them to spend the 13k and fix.
I had to stop copart from picking it up tomorrow. They were/are trying to steam roll me.
Given the age of the car, I'm not surprised that the insurance company wants to total it. As someone previously mentioned, you may want to see if you can buy back and rebuild, or just rebuild it yourself and forgo the claim.

Market values are high these days.I lost a 22 yr old CLK Cab with Ian. Allstate looked all over the country for comps and showed them to me. Payout was almost twice what I payed for it before car values went crazy. They are going for a quick easy out. Don't let them.
Try demanding an equal car from them. Say no money will replace it so another equal car or newer is only deal. You may have to go through legal help though otherwise they don't listen.
This is the headache with older cars, I have a pristine 1999 Jeep and all the time wondering whether to keep the insurance on it as if I would get anything if I crash it. Insurance is a racket for cars, homes anything nowadays.

Not to hijack the thread, but this is truly a headache for older cars. I still have my '95 RRC on my regular policy, but I suspect it really should be on an agreed value policy with a specialist insurer. Same is probably true for your Jeep...
My daughter’s C350 was totaled last month for much less damage after being rear ended. The car was a 2008 with 153k miles, but it was pristine.
I got a lot more money for it compared to the price I paid, so we replaced it with a much nicer 2013 E350 coupe with 100k miles on it, fully loaded and only added another 1500 bucks at purchasing.
So for us it was a win.

I finally called one of our company executives who said this is crazy and called the agent who pulled the Florida regional manager for Chubb and agreed to repair that there must have been confusion on the valuation by the outside adjuster. (confusion LOL) more like incompetent or criminal in my assessment. I try to not talk smack but this was ridiculous.
Anyway repairs are underway now. 🙂 and the new inside person handling the claim is a lot more responsive.
Also called Florida insurance commissioner office who said they would research and get back to me and all i have heard is crickets....
