Carplay upgrade
Thank you
Thank you
Thanks god for finding this forum. I'm about to buy a screen like these, and my main concern is getting audio from the screen to the OEM radio unit so I can listen music from the screen with CarPlay through the car's speakers.
I was thinking of connecting to the AUX/AMI port located in the armrest, which seems complicated, but for what I was reading above that's the wrong path, can anyone assist here to find the correct way to do this??

I thought I definitely needed to connect the audio (3.5mm jack) to the AUX/AMI port in the armrest (which I wanted to avoid), but I read in some posts above (posts 77,78) that it's not necessary.

Installed a Roadtop Carplay/Linux unit in my 2014 E350 coupe C207. Install went "OK" I say that with some reservation, I can't for the life of me remove the electrical connecter off the clock.
Be that as it may, I worked around that stupidity and got everything hooked up (not quite correctly). Set the resolution - check everything looks good, unfortunately I'm not getting any sound
from anywhere, not from the radio, not from the CD player, not from a phone bluetoothed in, nada. I unhooked the "stereo plug" and hooked it up to the MMI in the console, still no joy.
I've started a chat with Roadtop, but I don't hold out much hope with a resolution since English is their second/third/fourth language.
What am I doing wrong?
BTW, either my car is unique or all the youtube videos showing how to remove all the dash components are not for a 2014 C207. None of the wood had to come off, just the vents.

- If you are using Aux port (either by 3.5mm jack or AMI port) you must select AUX in the Audio section (in your head unit), no radio, no bluetooth, not anything else but Aux
- I don't know the model of your unit/screen/module (if you can share it), but I know some require update AUX settings (in android screens) in some cases you need to set the AUX position in the OEM Menu in the screen settings
With screen like this

I know the power comes from the head unit , and you know you unplug power and then connects the power cord from the screen, but if the original power cord includes an optical fiber , you need to remove it from original and then connect it to the screen's power connector
hope this helps
You need to find out the part of the manual for your car like the one I am attaching

AUX in the head unit. Still no joy. I connected the 3.5mm jack to the MMI in the center console thinking that might help, again no joy. This is very
frustrating (gross understatement).
Thanks for the input though.
edit: I do have fiber optic. I switched it over to the new power cord, still nothing.

I took out the AC control panel. It took her small hands to pull it out. THEN I couldn't get it back in the "slot". I had to saw out a portion of the "holder" so I could get it
back in place.
The most idiotic, stupendously stupid design I've ever seen. Totally over the top ridiculous engineering. Drove me insane for an afternoon. I was this >< close to going to
the dealer to see if I could buy that part.
Good luck.

HU removal. Only loosen the bolts enough so the HU pops forward. Any more and it will cause issues.
The box was mounted behind the screen where there’s plenty of room.
I had no sound so plugged the reverse camera loom (I have no reverse camera so wasn’t going to use this) then connected to two ground wires together. Sound sorted.
Couple of remaining issues….
I saw that you can disable the command voice. ie when you press the talk buttons to instruct SIRI the command system also listens. There is a way to disable command but after hours searching the net I can’t find the information again. If anyone can help?
Also when I put the car into reverse the screen reverts to command. Again if anyone has info for how to stop this happening would be appreciated!
Impressions:
- I have AUX and AMI, but the sound goes through the car's Bluetooth, so the quality is nice (still digital). The Harman Kardon is only useful for CDs and DVDs, which can be played while using the CarPlay module-also nice.
- The module wakes up on its own, without any intervention. I get in, my phone in my pocket, and the menu opens automatically. It's fantastic.
- The display is 7” 800x600, ages behind today's smartphones, but it works great for maps. Smooth, very good colours, contrast. Resolution is visible only watching pictures, but->next point
- it was MUST to keep original interior design. I consider touchscreens dangerous, and operating Command is comfortable (of course, I broke comand knob; I've already ordered a metal shaft).
- Smoothness, usability, speed, and phone connection – excellent. I recommend an wireless charger, as it drains the phone battery faster.
Concerns:
- I'm aware of the possibility that it might overheat in the summer. The box is behind the screen; I'll let you know in six months.
- The installation isn't tricky, or bad, it's terrible. It took me two evenings, and I was about to give up. There's no space, you have to break your fingers in 20 places to install it, and it still lacks flexibility. Huge risk of cutting wires… nightmare.
I'm happy with the result, but don't let anyone think it took 20 minutes, like on YouTube.
Good luck
