Quote: go to the factory menu and click the aux on feature. See if that helps
Thank you. This sort of works now. Except, well, I guess it really doesn't. I put everything back together (did this in parallel on two cars) and the screen's audio won't play through the car speakers. At first, I thought it was an issue with the wiring (had to mangle a little to make it fit), but I can connect a powered speaker the the end of the mini jack plug (with adaptor) and it works perfectly fine. So the issue seems to be somewhere between the wire that plugs into the media interface in the armrest and the Aux setting in the MB radio. Same issue on both cars. Before I buy a different Media Interface to mini jack adapter, any other suggestions?

Thank you

Ended up biting the bullet and going to a place that rewired things for me. No idea what they did, but they somehow wired it straight into the back of the original radio, not through the Media Interface connector in the armrest. No need to know how the sausage is made, I guess... Definitely uprates the car, the only downside is that the bigger screen makes the indicator for the parking sensors hard to see.

I did not wire mine into the Media Interface connector in the armrest; that sounds incorrect. I'm glad you worked it out.

My android head unit doesn't have the option in the factory settings to automatically switch back to aux. Every time I reverse or connect via carplay it switches to Radio rather than Aux. Anyone know any potential fixes I can send some images of the factory settings menu although I've tried nearly every option there.

Hi everyone,
Thanks god for finding this forum. I'm about to buy a screen like these, and my main concern is getting audio from the screen to the OEM radio unit so I can listen music from the screen with CarPlay through the car's speakers.
I was thinking of connecting to the AUX/AMI port located in the armrest, which seems complicated, but for what I was reading above that's the wrong path, can anyone assist here to find the correct way to do this??

What brand of android unit you have? can you post pics of the system interface where it shows you what the car has? You must not plug-in any speakers to the unit but only connect using the mini jack to the media interface cable.

Hi there, I haven't bought the screen yet, but it would be something like this.
https://dmpcardesign.com/product/fac...screen-w207-c2
I thought I definitely needed to connect the audio (3.5mm jack) to the AUX/AMI port in the armrest (which I wanted to avoid), but I read in some posts above (posts 77,78) that it's not necessary.

I know this has been beat to death, but I may as well try.

Installed a Roadtop Carplay/Linux unit in my 2014 E350 coupe C207. Install went "OK" I say that with some reservation, I can't for the life of me remove the electrical connecter off the clock.
Be that as it may, I worked around that stupidity and got everything hooked up (not quite correctly). Set the resolution - check everything looks good, unfortunately I'm not getting any sound
from anywhere, not from the radio, not from the CD player, not from a phone bluetoothed in, nada. I unhooked the "stereo plug" and hooked it up to the MMI in the console, still no joy.

I've started a chat with Roadtop, but I don't hold out much hope with a resolution since English is their second/third/fourth language.

What am I doing wrong?

BTW, either my car is unique or all the youtube videos showing how to remove all the dash components are not for a 2014 C207. None of the wood had to come off, just the vents.

Hi there TexasMule, I am about to install my new screen until this next weekend, but I think you can review:
- If you are using Aux port (either by 3.5mm jack or AMI port) you must select AUX in the Audio section (in your head unit), no radio, no bluetooth, not anything else but Aux
- I don't know the model of your unit/screen/module (if you can share it), but I know some require update AUX settings (in android screens) in some cases you need to set the AUX position in the OEM Menu in the screen settings

With screen like this
https://dmpcardesign.com/product/fac...screen-w207-c2
I know the power comes from the head unit , and you know you unplug power and then connects the power cord from the screen, but if the original power cord includes an optical fiber , you need to remove it from original and then connect it to the screen's power connector
hope this helps
You need to find out the part of the manual for your car like the one I am attaching

Ed, the model of my unit is a Roadtop NTG 4.5. I don't have a fiber optic plugged into the back of the power cord. I have set the audio source to
AUX in the head unit. Still no joy. I connected the 3.5mm jack to the MMI in the center console thinking that might help, again no joy. This is very
frustrating (gross understatement).

Thanks for the input though.

edit: I do have fiber optic. I switched it over to the new power cord, still nothing.

I don't know what else do, the only thing I can think of is that if the set of pieces you have from Roadtop are similar to the wiring diagram I attached earlier, just check you are not using the mic jack instead of audio out jack - from my understanding both looks the same (3.5mm jack)

I got that figured out now I am just unable to get the stereo back in I've been trying for a few weeks now but it still sticks out about an inch. Any recommendations? The canbus blocks it and I am unable to find a solid position for it to sit so that the cables or the canbus itself doesn't block the stereo.

Hey Jahseh,

I had the same problem as you. What I did was put where the car's OEM connector and the screen's connector join together at the bottom, in the nearest available space to the input. It was the only place I found that would allow the head unit to pass through. I've attached a photo. That's just the first part; the cable isn't long enough to connect the other part to the head unit. So, I inserted the head unit without connecting it, and once it was halfway in, I pushed the connectors through the top ventilation space with my hand. I know it sounds complicated, but it was the only thing that worked for me.

There is a space below the head unit (left side) that you need to shove the cables neatly. Just be careful not to yank any of the climate control wires as they might disconnect amd you end up with no A/C (wink). It will be tight but it should all fit in.

Does anyone know the part number for the sliding lock bars from headunit? I dropped them and haven't been able to find them

Ed, welcome to my world. I must have spent 2-3 hours on the sliding lock bars. The right one fell out and it took my wife and I ages to find it. Found it down below after
I took out the AC control panel. It took her small hands to pull it out. THEN I couldn't get it back in the "slot". I had to saw out a portion of the "holder" so I could get it
back in place.

The most idiotic, stupendously stupid design I've ever seen. Totally over the top ridiculous engineering. Drove me insane for an afternoon. I was this >< close to going to
the dealer to see if I could buy that part.

Good luck.

It should be down there you need to pull the A/C panel out. Take your time and flashlight is your friend.

I’ve just fitted a CarPlay box to my 2014 convertible and thought I could share a couple of points that may help if you are considering this.
HU removal. Only loosen the bolts enough so the HU pops forward. Any more and it will cause issues.
The box was mounted behind the screen where there’s plenty of room.
I had no sound so plugged the reverse camera loom (I have no reverse camera so wasn’t going to use this) then connected to two ground wires together. Sound sorted.
Couple of remaining issues….
I saw that you can disable the command voice. ie when you press the talk buttons to instruct SIRI the command system also listens. There is a way to disable command but after hours searching the net I can’t find the information again. If anyone can help?
Also when I put the car into reverse the screen reverts to command. Again if anyone has info for how to stop this happening would be appreciated!

Yesterday I finished installing the CarPlay box. I have NTG 4.0, JPY version, and I used the Bonroad box from Ali.

Impressions:
- I have AUX and AMI, but the sound goes through the car's Bluetooth, so the quality is nice (still digital). The Harman Kardon is only useful for CDs and DVDs, which can be played while using the CarPlay module-also nice.
- The module wakes up on its own, without any intervention. I get in, my phone in my pocket, and the menu opens automatically. It's fantastic.
- The display is 7” 800x600, ages behind today's smartphones, but it works great for maps. Smooth, very good colours, contrast. Resolution is visible only watching pictures, but->next point
- it was MUST to keep original interior design. I consider touchscreens dangerous, and operating Command is comfortable (of course, I broke comand knob; I've already ordered a metal shaft).
- Smoothness, usability, speed, and phone connection – excellent. I recommend an wireless charger, as it drains the phone battery faster.

Concerns:
- I'm aware of the possibility that it might overheat in the summer. The box is behind the screen; I'll let you know in six months.
- The installation isn't tricky, or bad, it's terrible. It took me two evenings, and I was about to give up. There's no space, you have to break your fingers in 20 places to install it, and it still lacks flexibility. Huge risk of cutting wires… nightmare.
I'm happy with the result, but don't let anyone think it took 20 minutes, like on YouTube.

Good luck
