500e high mileage timing chain question

Those of you with the 124 v-8's, have you replaced your timing chain/rails and if so, what mileage have you performed this procedure at as preventative maintenance? Does a two owner 500 scare you with 150k miles on it? Anything else come to mind on maintenance that should have been performed by this time? Thanks much, TG

No way should you change out the M119 timing chain at 100K...unless of course there are noises like a rattle on start-up. Its a huge, stout chain and easily goes 200K with regular motor maint and oil changes. They can/will stretch a little over time but a good tensioner will take care of any slop. You will know when the chain need to be replaced

You should , however, change that chain tensioner at 100K; defintely by 150K. And check the chains guide rails becuase they are made of plastic and can break. If you don't want to open up the motor to look then just drop the oil pan and see if there are any pieces in there.

I know several factory techs who have said they easily go 200K without issues. Save your money until you need to use it IMO. Being pro-active on this one is a waste.

Thanx...well, I've lived with the 500E for 7+ years....just speaking from experience !! Fortunately for us owners we have forums like this to discuss stuff and share info.

Also CHANGE out your wiring harnesses (upper AND lower) as Benzari relates...regardless of miles, they cause more problems now due to age and acknowledged inferior construction materials.

Try the Lucas P/S treatment before tackling the leaky box (which they all do) the seal kit is only about $20 but labor to fix can be hard on the wallet....or your hands if you do it yourself.

You in VA? Ever go to a DC MBCA section track event? I meet up with 2 other 500E owners in the Reston area to go down to their Tri-o-rama event at VIR every year. Please join us. We need more guys to smoke the new E55s...which we most certainly do !!
