Very Uneducated w124 owner
Hi All.... I just recently purchased an amg w124 1989. It's an auction car and is in great condition over all. Only a few minor imperfections. The front and rear bumper were both cracked unfortunantly... I was wondering if anyone knew where to get the factory amg lip kit from..... The rear bumper needs to be replaced and the front bumper probably too? How expensive is it? And also I have been reading up a little bit about the hammer. Is there any way I can tell if my car is an 'authentic' amg.... It has the emblems but at the same time does not have the 5.0 engine that I have been reading about. So if anyone could help me on where to find the body parts I'd greatly appreciate it. And also how much do these w124's go for in good condition? -Andrew

Well good luck finding the amg kit, aside from dealers (which will cost you one or two of your siblings) they are very difficult to find...
PS: Do you have any pics???

I would look for a good bodyshop that can repair the bumpers.
As far as telling if it si real ornot, that is tough, because back then AMG did not keep very good records as far as I remember.
They made AMG optioned cars which did not have the engine upgrades. Some had just cosmetic upgrades, some were performance upgrades without the cosmetic upgrades, and of course some are completely done up.
It is possible the car you have simply has just the cosmetic upgrades. there may be a way to check in the engine compartment for an AMG build plate of some sort, but I am not sure. usually they stamped into the engine a plate with an HWA in the beginning which was the beginning of the AMG mark. so I would search around on the engine block for a plate with an HWA on it. if not, it is possible you have a regular 300e with AMG kit on it.
Either way, post some pictures so we can check out the car.

There will be an AMG "production" label in next to others in door area.
The chances of a Merc being an AMG model and the owner not knowing it are zero.
BTW, there was an AMG M103 (6) engine, too.

The situation with this car is that my friend purchased it from an auction around the portland area. It only had one owner previous to my friend. The car inside and outside is in remarkable condition overall. The story I found out through the friend I purchased it from was that the original owner was dealing drugs got it impounded and was hard up for money and couldn't get it out. I'll have pics up as soon as i can..... but i just took some with my camera phone. I think that the front spliter and rear bumper probably got cracked in the tow yard. The owner took perfect care of the car. The paint has no fading or chipping, its the original paint, must have been garaged. But the problem I have is the front bumper is semi liveable.... but the rear left bumper is on the left side behind the fender ripped off to about the corner and the lip kit is too.....
The car I'm pretty sure only has the cosmetic upgrades but I just am so uneducated about mercs that I dont' know. I am more into modifying hondas and acuras and mistubishis.... Any help at all on the amg body kit would be greatly appreciated. And I picked up the car clean title for 1000..... I hope that was an okay deal.... Well I'll post more about it when i can and when I have pics.... -Andrew

1991 300E
the front bumper and lower "ground effects" are one piece. My '93 300E had the plastic cracked below the front bumper where the previous owner's teenage daughter run over a rock. He had already purchased the whole bumper kit and after I bought the car I installed it. It's not that hard, but be very careful when removing the little metal clips that hold the chrome trim on. I think the part painted was about $500.

knock off kits.. www.nrauto.com shjould have some
For cheaper knockoffs, www.erebuni.net but beware of the erebuni kits, the mounts on them are weak and need to be heavily reinforced, and if you car is low and you hit a parking block, expect to have to remove and repair many times...
