Hey! Nice to meet another enviro person. Now, are you an environmental scientist or an environmentalist? There is a big difference and I can't stand when people call me an environmentalist

What were you doing in lab? I've not seen lab for a while , for my thesis I'm working with LIDAR and using it as a flood detection tool in conjunction with orthophoto images. I'm also building a flood risk/assessment model so our county can get FEMA money in the event of a flood situation.

Back to cars, I have my engine temp sensor so I'll do that replacement tomorrow. I'm still not sure I can manage the crank position sensor on my own so....

awesome stuff!!

i'm an environmental scientist... i hate when people call me an environmentalist. the absolutely LAST thing i want to be associated with are those "green" freaks. would be amazing to actually teach them what it means to be green. driving those prius's isn't doing the planet much good. its all superficial

let's just say i've been working with dioxin's this past week and what they're doing to our little buddies under the water. as you may know they're prevalently common in combustion processes like waste incineration, herbicide manufacturing and most importantly, forest fires. i'll leave with that since its a group effort, wouldn't want my colleagues on my throat.

cool beans on the temp sensor. i would just give the go ahead on your mechanic to do the crank sensor, it really is a PITA to do.

AMG M104 dual-inlet airbox for sale here, along with the rest of the car (92 300CE). What a shame he's junking it instead of fixing it:

Yeah Dave, I got that airbox from Fred's part-out here. I've also ordered the H&R sport springs he had because the pricing was about right. I'm still on the hunt for the most recent EZL revision for my engine, but its looking to be a fairly fruitless search.

It is a shame to see the car part out as it looks like its been taken care of very well (at least cosmetically) and still runs and has some fight left. However, I understand the frustration he must be feeling with the car for it not running right. I go back and forth daily between blow the car up or mod/fix it.

Today, its mod/fix it, hence the H&R springs. I've also ordered a set of the MeyleHD strut towers to eventually replace my cracking ones. Now, I'm just on the hunt for a set of Koni Yellows and a set of bump pad/spring pads. I've already gotten the Red Shock Stop buffers from some of Dave's info and they're waiting to be dropped in with all the rest of the new suspension components.

As for progress on fixing the car, I'll probably drop it by the shop Friday, funds permitting. I'm going to ask for a leakdown test as I doubt compression has changed since I last had it measured there 4 months ago.

My friend from home is coming up in February and I think then we're going to drop the exhaust and fit a test pipe to hopefully rule out a clogged catalyst issue.

So, I feel good about the car. I've got high hopes that after the Crank Position sensor and Engine temp sensor issues are fixed that it will run right. Fingers crossed...

Semis, every time there's a part out you remind me what part I keep forgetting I need: those stupid weather seals! Haha, they're a pain to find, aren't they?

Yeah!! Those are not easy to find!
Mine are not that bad, just some drying. I do want them changed as they are visible though.
Man, hope those repairs help your car out!!!. I will probably be going to see the car being parted out in the coming up days. Is there something you want to check out for you?

At this point, I've got no idea. The only other items I can think of that I NEED (according to the codes my car is throwing) is a working EGR valve, working Air injection valve, and a working Tempomat module. That is the Cruise Control computer which should be in the driver's footwell.

I'll have to ask Fred what one he has and if it is functional.

Thanks for the offer, I'll have to think it over and get back to you. I'm sure there are things I need its just... I'm not thinking right now. I'm supposed to be doing a midterm, eep

So, I just broke my 129-540-22-81, shown in the attached photos.

EPC tells me it is this: Camshaft position sender

So, how screwed am I?

D'oh. Guess you'll need to replace that. The number in the EPC you referenced is for the connector on the engine harness, not the actual sensor itself.

The sensor is in the EPC group 15, subgroup 075, callout 47, part number 002-153-95-28. $150 list for OE, $104 from parts.com. There are some cheaper aftermarket ones for $40-$60 (FAE or Facet, both probably Chinese knockoffs) but I don't know if they're any good.

What the hell were you doing to that thing? LOL

It's not necessary to run/start/drive your car. It's a diagnostic sensor. But if you broke the sensor itself, it's going to leak oil.

Okay, I may need the harness connector as well because part of the sensor is still stuck inside it and I've yet to be able to remove it. I'll keep trying tomorrow.

The plan was to unplug whatever that was to get it out of my way so I could have more room to get at the Engine Temperature Sensor. I removed the airbox/airduct as well, but those are low-risk apparently :P

As I was pulling on it to unplug it, the sensor just shattered and came out in the end of the plug. The part of the sensor that goes into the block is still intact and its not leaking, it was just the plug area and the senor's internals that got pulled out on the harness cable.

I hope to get that all fixed up.

You say it isn't necessary and its a diagnostic sensor, but diagnostic sensor for who or what?

Hmmm. Are you sure about that? I believe it's required for the camshaft advance functionality. While the car should start/run/drive, power may be lower than normal, and I'd expect to see code #6 from the EZL, "Camshaft position sensor faulty". I'm not that familiar with the CIS injection systems though.

If it broke that easily, it was probably due for replacement anyway....

Yeah, I'm not one to yank on things in cars due to my morbid fear of breaking ****, so it was very, very brittle. And for the record, this breaking like that has just reinforced my fear of working on my car. I break things every time Not surprising really, it probably gets a ton of heat being bolted to the block like that.

But yeah, I've just placed an order for a new sensor for the whopping price of 48$ shipped, so regardless of function that is a small enough price hit that I'd rather it be there than not. As for the plug on the harness... I can only pray I can get that out because a new harness is not something I'm looking forward to paying for.

Yes, that is where I am right now but I've no desire to be limping around any more. It has been over a year. If this is just one more thing standing in the way of proper performance, it is on the list to get fixed.

WOOPS!

You're right.

I was thinking of a different sensor in the diagram he posted there. I was thinking of the sensor up front for I think TDC. My bad. Disregard previous post please.

Stars have aligned. Monday it is for cam/crank/engine temp sensors.
Fingers crossed this helps, if not fixes the issues. If not, I'll have no choice but to drop the exhaust in the snow & test for obstructions. Awesome
