Guy would not ship to the U.S. Oh well, mbenzman has helped me change my mind about this type of wheel as he has one installed on his 6.9 W116. The steering column looked really "bare" plus he said I'd lose all SRS functions, not just the airbag. For liability reasons, he recommended against it.

wait, the rest of the srs doesn't work? as in your seatbelts? i hate airbags, so that wasn't an issue for me, but if the rest of the car doesn't work that wouldn't be so desirable.

Losing the seat belt pre-tensioners was the deal-breaker for me.

a crash in a w123 without them compared to a crash in a camry with them was enough for me. taking a shotgun charge to the face isn't really that pleasant.

Oh, Ive never had an airbag deploy so I dont know... Yeah, pre-tensioners, they like grab the gears on the belts so they dont slack out, so when you hit, you just stretch the cloth of the belt. Right?

Yes, those are "Italo Volante" wheels made by a italian company for AMG in the 80's. I have one with AMG embossed in the center pad. It appears this company would brand the pad for several tuners.

I like airbags but my wife doesn't for her and for our daughter. Airbags may not even deploy in our mid-80's and early 90's cars.

Correct. When a crash of a certain severity is detected, the pre-tensioners "fire" and snug up the front seat passengers. There is a very good explanation of the system in the W124 Owners Bible.

wait, don't those just work normally whenever you decelerate too quickly? Or is that just the natural seat belt function?

yeah, air bags hurt a lot. basically, i walked away from an accident at like 65 mph in a w123 without one. i had a scratch on my arm and whiplash. but that was it. since then, i've been sold on owning a mercedes forever.
