How do I debadge?
Hey guys,
How do I debadge my '90 300E? A friend said he used a hairdrier to melt the glue, then dental floss to pull off the letters off his E46 325i. But he said the underlined badge may have holes. Is that true?
I tried looking for a quick DIY thread, but couldn't find one. Please help. The car is in the garage now waiting. haha.
I have a few concerns.
-the adhesive peeling off the paint since it is a 17 year odl car.
-difference in color, faded vs paint beneath the badges.
-it having holes?
Thanks a lot guys.

Nothing but adhesive holding it on. Dont worry about holes
There will however be a difference in paint color. It shouldnt be much depending on the current condition of your paint. Just take a look. Obviously the more run down your paint is, the bigger the difference will be.
Chances are that with a few good washes, it will bring down the noticable difference. No matter how little the difference though, it will most likely still bug you. Worst case scenario, you just re-adhere the badges or get a new color matched set where yours used to be.

definitley heat the adheisive...a heat gun will work quicker than a hair drier...but if you don't want to buy one a hair drier will work

Yes. I believe there are three posts on the back of the rear Mercedes star badge that insert through the trunk lid and held by plastic clips/grommets. I removed mine by pushing on the posts from the reverse side of the trunklid with the rear end of a screwdriver I think, then you can easily but carefully pry it off. My only question is why do you want to remove the Mercedes symbol?..... thats what finishes off the "debadged" look just remove the 300E badge, and leave that pretty star alone

Both of my cars had the slight discoloration of the badges. It really all just depends on what color your car is.
I took mine off and you can still see the E420 numbers.![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I just suggest hairdrying it to heat up the adhesive. Dental Floss and then 3M Adhesive remover to get rid of everything else.
Also, Wax and Clay the area a few times.

I debadged my W126 300SE with a hair dryer, and followed up with Autoglym Tar Remover, then a bit of Autoglym Super Resin Polish. There is no trace of the number from any angle in any light.
I did the same with my W124 Twin Turbo and there is an indelible trace, which I reckon is probably because the badge was stuck on too early after a respray. However, I've now given up looking for it and I doubt that anyone else will notice.

when I debadged, it pulled the clearcoat off my car. Someone recommended Goof Off and let me be the one to tell you that it eats paint. In the end, I slapped the badges back on and now I have to live with it
