sneak peek 2 - new lights (pics)
just put them in, haven't even wiped them clean or finished adjusting... i'll take better pics in the day hopefully this weekend if it isn't too wet out.
I did them completely by myself so the install is not as professional as others i've seen, but i feel more proud of my accomplishments this way!
you can't tell from the pics, but i did the 'washer mod' thing, so the cutoff is a very pretty purple. i also painted the wiper arms, but i realize now i should have left them black since the lenses on these lights are smoked...
these are ebay lights and tsx projectors. i chose this style of lights to play with because they were somewhat more OEM in style than the ones that come with the projectors already in them.
i have partly tinted tails and tinted windows, so i thought the smoked lenses would not look out of place with that. the housings are not as dark in person with the lights off, the lighting in the garage is just p!ss poor.. also, i painted the projectors black because i was too cheap to buy chrome bezels, so part of it is the reflection of the black.
i'll take daytime pics to see what they look like properly, since I don't even know myself yet...
what do you think? nice or not nice??

Those lights look great! I agree with trying to stick with the more OEM look, it just appeals to me more. the tsx projects really work with the w124s; between yours and Zorro's I think they are the way to go if you want projectors in our cars. I hope to get some of my own someday. It's also really cool you installed them yourself. I agree, when hard work pays off it feels good. Your car looks amazing, keep up the good work.

thanks man! i've done everything on my car myself, short of the shocks, mounting the tires on the wheels, and the actual painting of the body kit pieces... put it all together with my own two hands. i think the hardest thing so far was the stereo install, and the most tedious was doing these lights, as well as most painful (lots of cuts on my hands right now!)

^ I'll second that! I plan on doing my own install when I get my stereo. It doesn't sound like a walk in the park at all. Ive done a few stereos in a couple of my other cars and a few for my friends but i think this one will take the cake in terms of difficulty. Props again on the whole car, it looks great.

thanks guys, appreciate the comments. it shouldn't really matter what a bunch of fools online think about your car.... but it kinda does a little
this was quite a b!tch to do, and if i had to do it again I would definitely not, i would go with the projector type lights instead. aiming them was terrible, i had to mount them on the car, and then kind of hold the projector on there with the bulbs in, and then mark where I had to drill, etc. even now, the cutoffs are not even, and the headlight adjustment knobs are just useless, so when i'm close to a wall or something it looks sweet, but more than ten feet away and it starts to look a little weird. overall they're great and i'm not blinding people, so that's good, right?? i don't think the work I had to put in was worth it, maybe other people could do a better job, but in my opinion the lights that come with projectors would be ten times easier to mod and end up looking better.
the light output is nice, but I already had HID's in the stock housing, so i don't find any huge improvement.
when i parked at work this morning, i looked back at the car and was pretty happy with how it looked, but i still need to get used to it! forgot the d@mn camera at home though since i was late to work, and i'll only leave when it's already dark, so hopefully day pics tomorrow.
thanks again for the comments!

Zed man! that looks fantastic! You have found the only tasteful way to put projectors in a w124. This looks nearly factory it is so clean.

all i have left over are some H4 HID bulbs... i re-used everything to work witht he new lights... i spend as little as humanly possible on my mods!
thanks man... i don't like when projectors get retro'd into these types of housings, but then they're REALLY visible, because the car looks like an alien or something. i think the way i did it, the projectors are not too noticeable until the lights are on.
it will rain here this weekend, so i'll try to grab a cell phone pic this afternoon to show how they look in the day (still getting used to them, not sure i love them yet...)

it wasn't a 'shoot' as such, i was going to the grocery store and saw the empty parking lot...! I need to wash the car and try to do some decent pics like yours, or at least try to! maybe next weekend i'll give it a shot.
this is the only front one i have, the lights are on in it:
