How to troubleshoot why CC flaps dont flap

I've looked past this one for quite a while now, my AC dosent work and the temp selector wheel does nothing as to change anything, the only thing that seems to work is the heat from the defroster and at that the airflow comes from the windshield vents and the right and left bi-level vents, none of the other buttons pressed makes any difference or change of airflow. Where should I start guys? I want my Climate control to at least direct the airflow.....AC will be another project unless they are related?

Dave is very familiar with this, and the W124 in general.

Omg

Omg, I really really wish I could help!

You have unleashed the beast that lurks behind the dash of every MB of that era.

I have had MB mechanics shy away and describe the CC as "terrible".

I have put up with intermittent quirkiness from my 190 for years rather than risk additional problems from totally dismantling it.

That's not very encouraging, I'm afraid, but good luck!

Mine always functioned flawlessly so I never had to dig into it. If I had I could offer more info. The service CD has loads of info but it is too large to post in this forum. Dave also has some links that could be useful.

look at the part about the vac mode actuators they control the flap system someone with the wis might be able to give you the test procedure. The WIS goes through all the tests or access to alldata.Or it might be on the brotherton site

Great guys! Seems like I'm going to be reading up about this before diving into the innards of my dash. I'll start interrogating my MB Service CD set and reading up on these links. Either way I'll attempt this and post my findings along with pictures. Any further information is welcomed!

I'd like to see how this plays out.

My car has same problems. none of the controls do anything.

Going to need to fix this before it starts getting hot out.

I had this same problem with my car. I believe the Climate Control Unit (the controls in the center console) is at fault. When this module shorts out, the system goes to a default setting of full hot, high fan to the defroster outlets. The recirc switch will not work either. If this sounds like your problem you might have an easy fix. I took mine to the dealer and had them troubleshoot the system. They diagnosed the module as the problem and quoted me $700 to fix me up. This is an extremely easy replacement so I ordered a new one (advice was to stay away from rebuilts) from Performance Products and did it myself.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can help further.

hmm... my fan doesn't blow.

you can only feel the hot air when driving... obviously from the outside air coming through the vents. But yeah, none of the controls do a damn thing.
