W124's
If gas is killing you on your Mercedes now bro - DON'T invest into another German car.
Simply get a Honda or a Toyota to get around until you can piece back together your W124.

1.You are going to have to insure it.
2.You then will have 2 cars that parts can and will go bad.
3.You will have the up front cost of actually buying it.
I considered keeping my little 97 Saturn Sl when i bought my Benz for going to work and back but realized when I looked at the added cost of a second car and spread that out over the fuel savings it was break even at best. If you are getting 20mpg over all and you go to a car that is going to get you 30mpg over all and drive 1200 miles a month you will save about $200.00 per month. If you buy a car for $1500 and insure it with basic coverage for $50.00 per month you will be spending $175.00 per month plus the cost of repairs. Your over all savings is $25 dollars per month. A better solution would be to do the following.
1. Make more money.
2. Spend less money.
Do some side work or something and cut down on your driving. That should do the trick. Just some thoughts.

^ Very good advice. I learned the hard way that you will never really come out ahead by buying another more fuel-efficient vehicle. Cars are MUCH more expensive than gas. Cheap cars often cost more to maintain. You just need to find something to do beside driving around aimlessly.

95 e320...sold the rest
If you need a new fuel-efficient car, then have you ever thought about leasing a newer Benz that gets good mileage? And once you find one, sell your older one and there's some money towards it.

ford is not a car company in my mind i just think there over glorified version of a a hotwheels car..........now all that aside ........the main idea for this is i want a car that will save me a little more money so i can spend on my benz. my tranny could go any day or later this year or who knows when id like to have some cash saved up to buy things i need for that car. honda is fine cheap car mass made easy to work on and easy to get parts same with all jap cars. i could spend 3k on a crx and make 400hp and have a sick car but i would rather have my benz.
in my mind no car can beat compare or even come close to a benz

Dude, you are not gonna save money by having an extra car... If fuel economy is your # 1 concern, then you should really sell your benz, and start to look at very fuel efficient cars such as the Yaris or something...

91 civic used to get 35-37 mpg. today, that would save me ~$25-$30 a week to refuel. when gas crosses $3.50, a lot of things that don't make sense now will begin to make sense if you drive enough to refuel at least once a week

You want your cake and eat it too.
Anyone can buy a Benz or have one given to them (by far freebee is a better option). It is owning it that will cost you. If you can't handle the gas and the cost of repair then sell it. If you like it to much to sell it then deal with it. BUYING A SECOND CAR TO SAVE MONEY IS LIKE GOING TO TACOBELL AFTER BENIHANA CAUSE YOU WANT TO EAT A CHEAP MEAL TO OFFSET THE EXPENSIVE ONE. IT MAKES NO SENSE AND NEITHER DOES OWNING A SECOND CAR> you already spent the money on the best meal in town Buying a second meal does nothing but cost you more money and make you sick. You should really sit down and go through the numbers to decide if it really saves you money. Compare actual mileage of a car that you would purchase to your Benz. Also the little I know from your posts your not going to want to keep what ever car you buy bone stock..you like to play too much. So then your going to dump money into that car and have less left for your Benz. A second cheaper car is never cheaper. by the nature of the situation you are spending money on it that is not saving. It is your deal so do what you want but if you do and 6 months from now post something like "gotta sell my civic because it is costing me 2 much to have 2 cars" people are going to let you have it.

Hey Rio,
This is just a piece of advice, so please don't be offended. The best thing for you to do is just sell your car, and buy something cheap and fuel efficient. Concentrate on your education. Make a career for yourself, and then buy whatever car you want. Don't let your car become a money dump at this stage of your life. The less distractions now, the better. In a few years, buy yourself an E500.....Or buy a similar car that you have right now that is in good shape. It will save you money in the long run. Good luck, I hope all works out for you.
