Question Bad Antenna signal strength

This is the first time I have ever posted on this forum, I have always browsed around and gotten great tips and tricks from here.

Anyways! I have a 92 300e 2.6 I put in an aftermarket Blaupunket Deck and new speakers and an amp and Sub the last thing that I am wanting to try to get working perfect on this car "radio wise" is the antenna. My dad worked for Mercedes for the last 30 years and said that they just tried to over engineer the entire thing and made it way crappy. is there a trick or fix to give it some more power to pull stations in more clear?

I have yet to find an answer already out there so I hope someone some good advice

Try replacing the whole unit. Hirschmann....easy swap, it took me about an hour.

I ve heard that Blaupunkt decks dont receive that well. Pioneers work great with their supertuners - they can pick up anything from afar.

I have the original Becker 1492 (good head unit, miles better than the Grand Prix) and am experience bad signal strength as well, even after replacing the antenna when I snapped it off in a car wash by accident...oops.

I was gunna say check the connections in the back of the unit...which is somethign I plan on doing but never got around to cuz I always rely on the iPhone or XM haha.

Probably just go ahead and replace the whole antenna unit.

UPDATE: So I was tinkering around in the trunk and decided to just pull the power cord from the antenna. though it does not go up anymore for some strage reason i get REALLY good reception now! only side effect is that I love the look of the antenna up. reminds me of a REALLY big RC car.. but oh well...

I don't think it will make the signal better, but my radio had NO stations coming in at all! I just left it down pulled the black wire in the box out... with the 3 prongs. it wont go up and has no power. it seems to get more stations but I have noticed as I drive it still cuts out a bit. I am working on making something that I can just strap inside the trunk. Something that might work better... or just use my iPod more. But so far. down and unplugged seems to be working better than powered and up

Not the mast or motor

I really thought that's why my 06 was leaps and bounds better than my 97, but I just installed a new Alpine head unit in my 93, and the reception improved quite a bit. Apparently has more to do with the receiver.
