Just bought an 87 260E
PM you on ur milage.
Yes I will let you know on the rewinding.
After some driving there seems to a vibration on the freeway and a clunk when it downshifts at low speeds. Sounds to me like the flex disks. Other than that...once I get the A/C working and get the sound system working it should be an awesome daily driver with much better MPG than my wagon gets.
Can anybody tell me where it should be? There is illumination at the A/C Panel...but not the shifter console.
In general that is...like for the entire car. There are a few bulbs that seem dim in the instrument cluster and A/C panel that I would like to replace for good measure. Want to make sure I get the correct ones so not to melt any wiring or housings.
I'm getting some great comments over the new car from people

I suck at waxing though....can't seem to get the dang swirls out.
The bulb for the shifter is the same bulb for the A/C panel and warning lights on the dash. I would go to the junk yard and take the dash out of a car and remove all the bulbs. You might get them at a 5 finger discount lmao.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

I'll go check out the Meguiar forums, good idea thanks!
Well the car is still not exactly desirable with the dent in the fender and those crappy US headlights....drivers door also looks like it was resprayed at some point because its faded compared to the rest of the car...Waiting for the spray booth at my dads work to be finished so I can spray the new fender I nabbed at the junkyard. Black is black lol.
Still needs some work, but I'll be damned if this thing doesn't drive nice!! The suspension is SO MUCH stiffer than the wagon, seriously....the wagon feels like a boat compared to the 260E. Once I get the A/C working it'll be drivable for socal summer

Filled up today and got exactly 20MPG. That includes several 2 mile drives to work early in the morning. Pretty happy! I get like 7-8 more MPG in this thing compared to the wagon! Should be a lot cheaper to run. Trying to decide if I should just put 91 **** gas in, or keep to tier 1 gas stations...Wagon only gets Tier 1

Got my KnuKonceptz 8 gauge amp wire kit today so gonna try and tackle the headunit tonight. Wanted to wait so I only had to pull everything apart once. I'll have the amp wiring all ready for the future. Should be super easy to get the amp + sub in the future and just drop it in.
Do you know if this is a generic A/C part or MB-Specific? AKA can I get a new one at pepboys or whatever. This is on the low side. I managed to get the old one out with a bicycle pump attachment.

Got an odd question -- The power steering feels a lot effort to turn the wheel on the 260E when compared to the wagon (even when comparing same wheels too)....is this normal or could it be a PS filter issue maybe? Not a big deal...just feels more "effortless" on the sedan.
All 4 speakers working!
New distributor cap housing on its way and hopefully soon the A/C working. At that point, it realistically doesn't need anything else done for a while. Flex disks could do with replacing due to a small vibration on the freeway, but at $90 a pop I'll leave it for a bit.
The A/C is a PIA too....the compressor keeps engaging, then stops. I think the pressure is fine as I put 3x 12oz cans in and the specs say 32oz = correct amount....I have a feeling it could have something to do with the Aux fan control that was modded in...?

This car has a new breathe of life! No junkyard for a Benz -- only premium treatment!

Just gotta spray that rear bumper...
Ugh this was disgusting. This coolant has not been changed in a longggg time!!

Nice fresh G-05 Antifreeze going in now
Best coolant for the M103 hands down.
Ok get this -- Replaced window motor and was working fine when wired to starter battery.
Every time I plugged it back in properly, the fuse would blow.
I traced the entire black + green cables to the center window switch (fixed a few frayed sections)..but fuse still blew. I was scratching my head...
...then I woke up one morning -- first thing that came into my head literally: Fuse G also deals with Rear RIGHT window. I went to the window button in center console and unplugged the black + green female connectors from it to isolate that door entirely from the fuse -- and What do ya know! Fuse no longer blows.
Can't believe I tore up my carpet tracing this line only to find it wasn't even at the window I was trying to fix!!
One step closer to a more driveable car now

Gotta get new rear window motors before I get the rear windows working as with battery they still wouldn't move.
I'm learning so much about W124's its great!

Already got the Depo's...just havn't updated pic in sig.
Got 18" Monoblock II's in the garage ready to rock as soon as I can get the offset machined on them. They are ET31 and I want to find someone who will machine 4mm off so they will be ET35 as they stick out far too much for my liking.
Need to get the OEM grill instead of this S600 one I put on temporarily in place of the horrible broken gray one it originally had.
Can't wait

I accomplished so much today very please with myself.
Oh, and psycho, reading this made me miss my 260E...

Rear tint is almost off as well. Anybody got any tips for getting it off the very bottom...there just isn't much room at all. Wish the parcel shelf could be removed

Once I get the rear windows working, gonna get a good tint.
Is there a legit limit in CA for the rearview window? Or is it only the front that has the restrictions?
I'm thinking 10% rear and 50%/~75% front.
Can't wait to turn a car that was going to the crusher into a complete transformation! She deserves it at 83k miles on the clock! About to be murdered in her youth!
Visual To do list:
1) Windows
--a) Rear windows functional
--b) Soon as windows work, tint time
2) Spray rear bumper black
3) Spray replacement front bumper + put on. (you can see the one I have in pics has got all these dents in it...weird...but car was neglected)
5) OEM Grill and spray black.
5) 18" Monoblock II's

Mechanical To do list:
1) Strut tower -- noticed hairline cracks
2) Brake fluid flush
3) Transmission filter + fluid change
4) 1 Broken engine mount
...not really much else! It runs a tad nicer than my wagon does!

Here's the fading I was talking about in the other thread....
Nothing I could try to revive that? I've done paint cleaner, polished and buffed without a whole lot of success. Probably just a respray right?

Got tire removed from my other AMG Monoblock II, so gonna try and get the offset machined at your recommendation.
Gave the EHA I took from the junkyard a 1/2 turn richer and the bottom end hiccup has completely disappeared
She just purrs now it's awesome.
Got 4 days off (Thanks Labor day!) Should give me a day to hit the transmission fluid + filter along with the engine mounts at the same time. Might as well
I currently have a bunch of the Valvoline Maxlife DexIII in my garage. This seem good to use?
