anti-roll bar kit & strut brace for W124 ?

What does everyone think about getting anti-roll bars and a front strut brace for a 1995, E320, W124? I found that Eibach makes an anti-roll bar kit, with prices of $446, $499, and $595, depending on the vendor. Of course there are also the "Sportline" bars from the dealer and maybe the E420 bars are bigger than my E320 bars. The Eibachs are 28mm Front and 17mm Rear. I don’t know the diameter of the stock E320 bars or the Sportline bars. Are those Eibachs too big? I saw a post for a CLK, I think it was, and the mounting hardware was ripped right off of his car from using the massive bars. Can the E320 mounting hardware endure the big bars? In addition, I think the Eibachs may come with polyurethane bushings that may require more attention to lubrication and I suppose they don’t flex, so that could add more stress to the stock hardware.

Now what about the struts? So far, I found that Wiechers and Sparko make a strut brace for the W124. Only Wiechers specified the year for the W124, so I am a little unsure about the Sparko. I am not sure if all the W124s were the same at the top of the struts. In the 1995, it is not a straight line from strut-top to strut-top, because the firewall is in the way. I am not planning to cut the firewall, so I hope that the Wiechers brace has a bend of some kind to accommodate this. I will have to find out more about the Sparko.

So what do you know about anti-roll bars and strut braces? Please help me. Last time, when I purchased Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks, I found out after they were installed that I needed the K-MAC bushings to fix the rear camber. This time I would like to know more before I buy the stuff. Thanks for your guidance.

I had a 300E-24 sportline for 2 years. All I can tell you is it handled well but shook your fillings out at low speed on bumpy roads! Anyway, checkout this link.. www.mercedesshop.com/sportline_suspension.htm

already adjusted to the "firm" ride

I have already adjusted to the "firm" ride that comes with the Eibach springs and the new Bilstein shocks. The anti-roll bars are not supposed to have a big impact on ride stiffness. The anti-roll bars just keep the car flatter in the turns, so the body doesn’t "roll" up to one side when you are cornering. I have already read about the Sportline suspension at mercedesshop.com. Thank you for the response.

I have heard that the 500E or E500 anti-roll bar is suppose to be the best bang for the buck. It should be around $200 and its thickness is around 28.5mm. You will not have to worry about it tearing off any mounts at it only takes anout an hour to put in.

I will check into it, but major changes?

E500 parts could be perfect, but I read in some forum that there were many major changes in hand-building that awesome car at Porsche that make it difficult to interchange certain parts. I will check into it. Thank you.

Go to this website http://web.tampabay.rr.com/actionfit/home.html
It is created by Subman, a member. He has an excellent page that describes how to install a 500E anti-roll plus several other mods. The results of the mods are of his E420 which is the best example of any I have seen.

If you would need a camber kit made by K-MAC for your car just let me know. Coz I still got a set brand new for rear application.
It also applies to W202,w210,w124 etc... My e-mail: MIC28095@yahoo.com

Do you like your Eibach bars?

To ZorroAMG,
I saw that your list of modifications included an Eibach swaybar. Are you happy with the bar? Did it require any special modifications to get it installed? Does it have the polyurethane bushings? Why didn’t you use the E500 bar? From the picture I saw, in the link for Subman’s website that was provided by KOOLY2, it looks like the E500 bar is thicker in the middle, but not at the ends. The Eibach looks big all the way to the ends. I suppose it is even stiffer than the E500.

Did you get the rear bar? If not, why not? The Eibach rear bar looks like a monster compared to the stock E320. That stock rear bar looks like it would be almost worthless. I suppose that it is a much bigger issue in the front, but considering under-steer and over-steer issues it seems that both front and rear bars should be comparable.

I already have the K-MAC bushings, but thank you for the help. They worked great. My camber is now within specifications. I just wish someone had told me I would need them before I installed the springs and shocks. It would have been easier and less expensive to just do everything at the same time. Oh well, live and learn. The car is great now and I am very happy with the modifications so far.

Please help me learn from your experience and tell me if a camber kit by K-MAC (front/rear?) for my 88 300CE is needed. Here is the situation: I was told that camber was off in front (tire contact too much on inside of tires. I have newer 124 16’ wheels and 225/50/16 tires installed. MB mech said maybe replacing the control arm bushings might correct the camber. I do not know if I need it a camber kit, but since I am about to install a full MB Sportline suspension (bars, shocks, bushings, springs) with new control arm bushings and rear links I do not want to redo any unnecessary work if my camber is still off. Thanks in advance

K-MAC is for Rear camber

I was told that the front camber was adjustable on my car. Only the rear was a problem. If you are going full sportline, the drop in ride height should not be so much as to make it necessary to have the camber adjusted. However, it is a nice feature for any car.
