According to the picture I would like to ask some question
1. We can't install the coil over without taking the spring out can we?
2. I see an image with separate shock and spring. May I ask why?
3. Can it be adjusted the ride high with out compress the spring section?

It look really like a normal shock&spring system for me now. It is not a coilover anymore.

If the pic posted by the vendor is for the 124 then how is it a coil over?
I wouldn't use an unproven aftermarket suspension component that isn't built to OEM or higher spec on any car let alone a Merc !!!

You communicate very well...it is no more then a substandard and potentially dangerous strut/shock spring installation.
You saw the difference in the vendors pix of the OEM and coilover supplied spring.
The weight of the car rides on the spring not on the strut.
The piece on top of the coil is an especially bizarre part of the design....what's the purpose other then to fill the gap left by the OEM spring ?

Seems to me .... the height adjustment would be the thing on top of the spring. And then a regular shock with some bearings on top. Tho what's the yellow nut doing in the middle of the shock.

I have sent an email to them today to cancel the order.

According to an image they put in EBAY I expect that the front part suppose to be a coil over system.

Seem like B8+Eibach is the best solution.

Also since the structure that hold our shock in place is not designed to hold the weight of the car
It seem to me we still have to leave our original spring there for safety reason? (perhaps a 201 spring )
which mean we add more unsprung instead of remove.

I slept on it and have come up with... maybe there is some assembly required??

Would the things attached to the springs thread onto the shocks? Just a thought.

The yellow sports or whatever are not a coil over. As you guys have figured out. It is just an adjustable spring perch on a race spring in the stock location with a coil over shock without the spring on the shock. It gives you adjustability of so you can set ride height and thats really it.
The only true coil over is from Ground Control. They list it for the w201 chassis.
The problem is that it can not fit more wheel or tire over stock on it really.

Yes very interesting... trying to see a final install.. the beast by design will always require a frame spring or whatever they call it ... as well as the shock and or adjustable coil... so .... i'm confused as well..

I've been trying to tell the thread that the 124 suspension is not designed for coilovers due to structural design and location/physical dimensions of the strut tower.

The posted link from the vendor clearly shows the 124 install and it is just how you describe.

Possible great for those that slam their cars but not so great or even safe for those that want to corner at speed

Ed, could you verify this thought?

We know the strut mount is a weak link and couldn't support the weight of the car without springs. And even if reinforced and yadda yaddi... wouldn't the ball joint in the control arm also be stressed to support all that weight.

In such dangerous ways that the alignment could collapse toe??

Just analyzing what the springs support, right on the frame rails.

I do not think that it is actually unsafe to use coil overs. I think that the shock tower is more than sufficient. The gain for a coil over is really only two things over our stock setup. 1st is adjustability. The yellow sport provides this with adjustable spring cups. You do not need their shocks though to gain this. I have heard that their setup is not adjustable with the springs on the car. This makes corner balancing very difficult. If you were racing then swapping springs and adjusting would be very difficult.
2nd is that the spring location being inboard for the stock location provides leverage over the spring. A true coilover puts the spring load point out at the wheel and standard spring rates are usable.
I think all that being said that the w124 chassis is not a car I would put these on. A really good shock and good springs and sway bar is sufficient for a street car and tracking a w124 does not make sense. The adjustability is not necessary for the street.

I have no problem with coil overs providing they are from a known manufacturer..
I have AMG modified KW's on my Black Series and they are there for adjustments for chassis balancing.

My comment about safety was that the vendor is calling their design a coil over which it is not.
So why have confidence in the quality of the product ?

Standard strut tower would have to have a more substantial upper mounting .
No info on any spring rates matching/compatible with the strut...important for ride stability as it "tunes" the suspension.

Commercially available struts/shocks/springs from companies like Bilstein are as good as you can get for maximum performance on a 124.

Well, we haven't ascertained that they're fake yet. At the very least, they're a sports shock with stiffer springs. Which is what you need for stiffness anyway...

So if he doesn't return your money, you've at least gotten something out of it. I hope you work it out, though...

Now With hindsight I am glad I did not placed an order on them,
I had been quite disappointed when it apparently not really "coilover", may look for another solution if I want to have the car low enough.

Will be well to look for something sensible Airride kit.

Think also it is a bit bad manners to them not to write it in the item description, or the like. And when I was in contact when they talk and describe as normal coils

When you purchased the set, did you ask what those 2 "hand grenade" looking things are for? Considering that, the set you received is not entirely too far off.

This is the first time I invest in new "new-brand" and I have learn my lesson.

I am a kind of DIY man and I know that with the right knowledge,tools and mind-set it possible to get good stuff with reasonable price.
This yellow speed people really let me down.

this is an example why I believe that cheap can be better.
Last time when I bought the light-weight forged wheel it coverd with irremovable brown brake stain. I checked the price of those wheel stain remover product which cost me around 20-30$ but at the end I spent 1$ for bottle of HCL and it clean my wheel as good (or better) than those big brand.
It didn't damage the painting it still shine and glossy as brand new.
