1991 E300 coolant leak

Hello,
First time post and looking for some advice regarding a coolant leak. It is a slow leak that drips from the passenger side of the engine block around the middle of the block. When the engine is running the leak is faster but not too fast. When the engine warms up the leaking coolant sizzles and evaporates. I can see coolant run down to one of the freeze plugs, run down along the edge of the freeze plug, then down to the bottom of the block, and ultimately drip very slowly on to my garage floor. My commute is short, 10 miles round trip, and after few days I check the coolant level and have to refill but not very much. My vehicle has 150K miles and I recently changed the radiator.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Sounds like a headgasket leak to me, that is the big job.

More likely the water pump.

Isn't the water pump at the front of the engine? I think the water pump connects on the drivers side.

It looks like it could be the headgasket . That will cost over 1000 bucks to fix , my 300ce is still at shop having the heads rebuilt and gaskets replaced $$$.
Good luck !

Before concluding its the head gasket, make sure the oil gallery plugs have not corroded as they are located in the middle of the block on the passenger side.

EDIT: Nevermind freeze plugs are same thing. Missed it. So yes probably head gasket especially at 150k miles if it has never had a rebuild.

Thanks for the responses. I was wondering about the head gasket vs. water pump but the water pump looks to be more oriented towards the drivers side. This is my first Mercedes so I'm learning.

If the water pump is leaking, you should see coolant stains on the metal. It should be obvious.

You can also put some UV Dye in the system to 100% find out where its coming from. You can find it at any local auto store.

Is there a specific brand of head gasket I should use for replacement...or, alternatively, any I should avoid?

Just stick with Victor-Reinz. I recommend getting the complete set /w intake + exhaust gaskets. Autohausarizona carrys it for about $60 IIRC.

I'm 10k miles into my new gasket and no problems Everything fit perfect and I am happy with it.
