The ED kit is reasonably price and better then average quality..
As close as one can get to an accurate replica of the GEN I

So, when we meet up this summer to race Ed, may I see the Black?

Car is at a Merc dealer in North Carolina...weather clearing up here, hope to have it delivered by early next week lastest...

RBYCC, do you happen to know what material the OEM AMG Gen I items are made of?
Gotta figure this out so I can get the right material to plastic weld it.

i came across this coupe for sale, it has a bad tranny he says, and is asking for $2500 obo. it has an AMG kit too with a ducktail, it may or may not be worth it for someone to haggle him down to take the kit and then junk the car...

Like Z and Chris posted it's polyurethane...

Not sure how well it takes to plastic welding.

Looking at your damage, I would probably bond a rigid piece of whatever you find to the back of the damaged area, or as crazy as it sounds fill the void behind the damaged area with an expanding PU foam.
AMG used expanding foam to fill voids on the wheel wells of some widebodies !!!

Then use a reinforced filler ( Bondo with a chopped fiber ) to make the repair on the front.

The front looks GEN II without the lights installed.

Buying right and the kit is worth as much as the car !!!

Glass fiber will not stick to PU.
Body repair shops use plastic welding... its the only way to go.

You are correct about fiberglass not sticking to urethane.

Even if you plastic weld, you may need to reinforce and fill to finish..
I was speaking about a thin flexible skim coat to fill any voids or holes left by the repair.
By the time you finish sand it's hardly visible...

Bondo used to make a two part reinforced urethane bumper repair material that could be finished..

Looks like since 3M purchased bondo, they dropped the product as 3M had a similar kit.

I have two friends who picked up very cheap W124's as DD's ..... and they are considering the ED kits.... I might even pick up a rear and sides for my W126

What is your opinion on the ED kits overall, and what was up with the front not fitting? what would it have taken to get it to fit properly, without cutting it to the OEM bumper top??

Thanks!!!

What makes the ED kit desirable is that it uses the stock impact strips.
Most other kits have the strip / bumper molded as one piece.

For whatever reason, the center section of the ED bumper was slightly narrower then the impact strip.
The stock strip wouldn't fit flush and bulged slightly.
The ED part may or may not be slightly different in another kit.
It appears that I could have reworked it, but decided to splice the stock top with the ED bottom to keep the stock mounting and interior absorber block.
Relief cuts had to be made in the top section to match the widebody flare of the front wheel arch.
The OEM top seemed easier to modify for my application.

The ED kit is good quality but has no mounting points.
You have to remove the mounting points from the stock pieces and transfer to the ED...not that difficult, but also not a straight bolt on

The 740 fogs thats used is for the ASD Gen I front bumper, not the AMG. You can see the pix of it on the site www.SoCalCarbon.com

lol, the Bosch Fogs that fit into the bumper are the same ones used on pre facelifted E30 BMWs.

I snagged a 2 sets for both of my AMG bodykits.

^Those were the ones I was looking at. I asked the seller to provide dimensions for me. They "look" like the same model though.

Ya snooze ya lose! Soon as I saw the dimensions I jumped on it. Knew some lurkers were going to steal my now potential lights to fill the hole in my bumper
If I see some others for a good price, I'll be sure to send you a PM

Once I get them I'll take some pics with em sitting in the housing...can't bolt em in yet as I am fixing the crack and still need to paint.
