AMG Gen 1 kit...

Thanks to rivcal for the heads up about this kit....I managed to grab it and am very happy to be a proud owner of an AMG Gen 1 Kit now!

Few questions...

What options do I have for lights? I think I would prefer spotlights over foglights, so any recommendations?

I was wondering also if it would look odd to put the chrome strips found on the later cladding onto the front and rear bumpers (double sided tape, not drilled) so I can keep my current side cladding?

Will post some pictures tomorrow...has a small cracked section, but looks fixable. I will paint and fix it before putting it on the car. I think I want to paint it the same color scheme as it currently looks in my sig.

Some pictures...Not been cleaned yet. With it repainted and repaired in the few small sections, I think it will look great

Thanks,

I think I'll go with some MTec H3's to match my main beam if I can't find any spotlights over fog.

Dude, I got rid of my MTECs for Philips Xtreme Powers... Night and day difference dude. The MTECs had inexcusably ****ty light output.

Just sayin.. if you want bright, you should look elsewhere :P

Are you sure? I had thought our light output was limited due to the design, not the bulbs once we got better ones.

Also, would these fit?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...EF:MOTORS:1123

Assuming I get the right dimensions, I should be able to make them work, right?

Does anybody have any information as to the best way to hook up the fog lights to work with the regular beams at the same time? IIRC I have a spare connection in my connector for "driving lights"...could I just wire it up there or would it require any extra work due to wattage?

I think they require a relay kit due to the extra power draw. I thought I saw some install instructions in my searches. I will look for them.

If there is a kit that mounts right on, I'm all for it, but otherwise I want to keep this as simple as possible. I have too many projects

When I went to the Euro housings + MTECs the light pattern got better, but light output did not.

It was not until I replaced the MTECs with the Philips Xtreme Powers a few weeks back did I really get a nice amount of light out on the road.

I didn't do a side-by-side shot (friend has my camera :C ) but I was quite angered by the ****-poor output of the MTECs once I had them next to my Philips. In terms of color temp, no contest, MTECs win the HID look-alike contest. But in terms of pure light output... I may as well have been using a LED flashlight or something.

Those fogs may fit, not sure the dimensions of the "real" fogs for the AMG Gen I kit.

AMG Yellow Fogs:

3000k Amber Fog Kit:

(not sure on quality)

The fog/lights that were first linked to Ebay by Brett and the OP are both too large for the GEN I spoiler.

I picked up a set of French yellow lights from the link below ( which Brett also posted )for my widebody build....seller took my a $200.00 offer.
They should be the correct NOS GEN I lights per their description...

Thanks RBYCC. Did Bosch make any non-amber ones that fit the Gen I?

Most were clear...

France required not only yellow for auxiliary lights, but headlights also had to be yellow.

If you brought your car from the UK or any Euro country to France you were required either to use yellow film over the headlight or a yellow lamp in the headlight.

I would have preferred the clear, but it's rare to find the GEN I lights...

I'm hoping the description is correct..should get them in another week or two and I'll post the results.

If you measure your opening you'll find that the light opening will accept something less then 5" wide and 3" high...

I also bought a very inexpensive Chinese set for $20.00 off of EBAY which are small and would fit....

lots of cars
Makes me wish I still had my w124. I miss going to the junk yard on a sunday to look for little stuff and finding H&R springs and sports shocks all the time. I have cladding if your interested ps2cho. I think I also have some clips. I need to get rid of a lot of w124 stuff. Look for a 3pc ducktail spoiler and you're set.

Just got lucky that's all...

Back to the first question -- Do you guys think adding the chrome strip would look odd?

I will do some measurements and try to find one that will work...I just don't see myself spending $200 on light housings to be honest. As long as the mounting mechanism is on the rear side and it fits the dimensions, it should work great.

I think with the chrome grill it might look like too much on the front end. I have been trying to determine what it might look like (with the chrome) also but haven't seen it except on a C36

i dont know man, i know you just put that updated cladding on recently and dont get me wrong it looks great, but i think if you paint it grey it would be a mistake. Trust me, the black and grey color scheme gets old pretty fast.I think if you painted it grey, a few months down the road you might question yourself as to why you didnt just do it black. But hey its your car and it will definitely look good either way, just wanted to warn you because the grey and black got old for me and im in the process right now of painting all of mine black.
