Made a few upgrades to the E420 this weekend

Well I havent been on here in what seems to be a very long time but its probably only been a month I finally got around to painting my cladding body color just gotta get to the front and rear impact strips. I also painted my grille. But my favorite upgrade that I did this weekend was putting on my new steering wheel.

I like it because all the other ones have that "crease" in the leather and it looks really "cheap". This one is flush and looks great

If I had to take a stab at it, I would say this wheel is from a 94+ SL600 or S600, which had burl steering wheels as an option. Of course, there are many aftermarket wood wheels made from OE Mercedes cores, which are just as nice.

One thing to note though, when choosing a wheel, be carefully and make sure you know which year it is from. If JSE420 picked up a wheel from a 92-93 car, it wouldn't fit his 94 E420 without making some inteiror modifications to the wheel (basically drilling a additional hole into the base of the wheel)

^^^This guys good except it was a sl500

I've had my eyes on that wheel for some time now. We got a 95 sl500 parts car in not too long ago at my shop and I knew I had to make that steering wheel mine. I got it for $175 and it fits right on without any problems.

Love the way the grille looks... flat black paint or gloss?

BTW, can you post a closer view of the grille...just might do mine, too! Thanks!

Can you please get me a part number!

I am trying to replace the one originally fitted to my car by the factory but the MB part number in the system is wrong - yes wrong. You get a grey wheel that wont accept the airbag and shocking quality. The wheel you have is the correct wheel for all Sportline 124 Cabriolets for the Aus, NZL and European markets at least. See picture of mine attached.
Has yours been recovered? Does it have the deep grained leather you can see on mine in the spoke area that hasn't worn.

Can you please get me the part number if at all possible. I am going to stump up the necessaries for a brand new one - again!

Best regards, W.

Based on what I see in your picture, it looks like you have a 2000 C class wheel, well at least its a 2000 C class airbag. That might explain why your having fitament issues. Starting in model year 1998, the internal design of the steering wheel/airbag changed, so for example you can not put a 95 airbag on a 98 wheel, externally they look like they will mate, but the internals differ.
