AC / Heater Blower Motor

I need to replace the blower motor on my 1992 300E. Does anybody know the best way to get to it? Is it throught the engine compartment? I so, I can't see an obvious path. Anyone know how to do it?

You need to disassemble the wiper arrangement, take off all the paneling around it etc. Best is to get a manual from AMAZON or similar to get the details. There are some screws hidden behind window frame, and the adjustment of the wiper is also to be known since it has to come off, at least parts of it.

Hi, maxjet told me about the MB maintenance discs for our car which you can find on ebay for about 30.00. It contains wiring diagrams and procedures for just about everything but he said make sure you buy the ones for the 124 series....I just learned about it so I'm going to get them myself.

Its a 4-6 hour job if you've never done it....and its quite common for that blower motor to go bad on a W124 anytime over 100K miles.

BTW, I sell copies of the Factory W124 service CDs for $10 shipped (shameless plug!) E-mail me if yous need them.

Check to make sure it isn't the blower regulator. You don't want to buy a new blower and have that not be the problem. The regulator is in the blower housing, because it needs constant cooling (it's transistorized).

How do I check to make sure it isn't the blower motor?

left behind the fuse/relay box there is a 6-prong? plug which is directly connected to the blower via the resistor bank. If you are able to unplug it you can apply 12V and see whether or not the fan is running. To unplug this baby ther is some fiddleing required since the space is VERY limited there.

If you decide to replace the blower motor, be sure to clean out all the trash in the evaporater tray and drain while you're in there. These will clog up in warmer climates and cause water to build up and leak down into the footwell if you run the A/C. I had to clean mine out on my 190E, it looked like a frog pond in there. Also make sure you get all the seals on the wiper motor and firewall back right or even more trash will get down into that compartment.
