yes it was the escort i was referring to,
i had mk1 rs 2000,mk 2 mexico with a 2000 engine
unfortunately no photos as it was before digital cameras and camera phones
just good memories and the wonder of how i am still alive lol

I had rust on those holes too. I cut out a square and welded in new metal. Almost set the car on fire, insulation behind the wheel well caught fire! Also sparks from welding marked my rear window (it was down and I have a coupe.) So yeah just gluing them shut seems like a better/safer alternative.
