w124 Petrol Engine Replacement from other Models

Hi, there. I just bought a w124 E-class. The one I got turned out to be in need of engine replacement...
The engine is a 2.0L 136hp petrol (m111.940). It seems to be quite hard to find a w124 donor. I wonder if other models can be donors?
I don't want to increase displacement or horse power (so I can legally drive the car in Bulgaria).
There are w210,w208 and w202 with 136hp 2.0L petrol engines. Is it possible to use one of those and what hoops should I jump trough?
Thank you in advance!

Hello.
Your vehicle uses PMS brain, other vehicles you mentioned have HFM brain. For this reason, the engine electrical wiring, the brain, and the electrical wiring on the vehicle must be changed along with the engine. also your car has fan thermal, others have electric cooling fan. The electrical installation must be rearranged accordingly. In other words, the job does not end with just the engine, many changes are required.

Thanks! That's something I'll keep in mind.

After some more digging (and talking to someone who has exp. with that operation) it turns out I can use only the block and pistons from a w202 136hp engine for example.
I keep the cylinder head and crank shaft from the w124 - this will eliminate the vanos that later engines of the m111 family have.

Still if anyone has more tips and advice - please share

Sounds complicated. Is rebuilding your engine not an option?

No, sadly. I can't find replacement Pistons in Bulgaria. No parts dealer have them in stock. They don't even plan on importing them in the future...

Normally, all one needs is piston rings an not pistons themselves in a rebuild. Sounds like your engine is completely toast, as in damaged pistons. Did the car have a timing chain failure and subsequent piston damage that follows it? Piston rings should be readily available everywhere.

For my own education Cem, what does PMS acronym stand for? Quick Google search did not come up with anything.

Cheers!

PMS= Pressure Management System
HFM= Hot Film Management

Simply the differences and the nomenclature that way if I'm not mistaken. Pressure expression is included because it regulates the injection system by reading the intake manifold pressure in the engine.
