1997 e420 w/ 76,587 miles
starting to show it's age..the little things going wrong... seat control on passenger side does opposite of what you tell it... hillarious when my husband almost ended up in the windshield trying to move the seat back!! 3 window regulators, AC fan is working at 1/3 speed... brake light sockets don't make good contact all the time and can stop working intermittantly.. check engine light issues two years ago from bad injector wire.. now light came on again 3 days ago... It's starting to wear thin ya know?

97 W210 E420
1997 E420, purchased it at 113,900 miles, now at 116,500 miles.
Comments: It's a solid great daily driver, gets great highway gas mileage. No problems thus far. Hopefully within a year and two, I can move up to a 210 E55.

1997 E420 Sport
Year: 1997
Model: E420
Country: USA
Mileage: 252k
Comments: I bought it new in 1997. Replaced the transmission at 60k at no charge. I've gone through several rear window regulators (3). As expected, several minor things give it character: passenger set controls work in reverse, strong RF fields set off the ABS/ESP warning lights (thus proving the car can read minds). But it is still rock solid: 22-24mpg, 120 mile drive 5 days-a-week.

Wow! Richard, I need to invite you down here to the South Bay. Seriously, you really need to drive that car a bit more.
I'm surprised you need so much tire/wheel/suspension work at such a low mileage.

My E didn't actually need tires, wheels or suspension work; I just wanted to change the original EOM wheels and its a domino effect.

Hope I can make it there too.

Just drive very slowly and be sure not to tailgate anybody. If you actually stay four seconds away from the person in front of you, you won't get a rock chip. I learned that the hard way.
Unfortunately, since nobody else drives with four seconds ahead of them, the person behind you might get a bit of road rage.
But seriously Richard, the life of a car is probably 10-12 years either way with miles or without. Gotta put those miles on somehow. Drive it to enjoy it. Your car has less mileage than a Ferrari.

2002 E55 AMG
#67
Year: 1997
Model: E320
Mileage: 95,500
Picked up car as a European delivery.
Following done at dealer's cost:
Instrument cluster
Head gasket (3 times)
Water pump
Steering rack
Front lower control arm bushings
Driver seat position switch
I paid for:
A/C evaporator and dryer
Cable connecting steering wheel air bag to SRS
Ball joints
Front brake pads/rotors (twice)
New radiator hoses
New thermostat
New accessory belt
Transmission service
I paid for and did:
Left rear window regulator
Front schocks
New battery
Cabin filters replacement
Instrument cluster bulbs and one fog lamp bulb
Need to do:
Plugs
Rear schocks
Shifter bushing
Car has been frustrating but is a pleasure to drive and of better quality than the W211's. Everytime I drive a car that I think might be a replacement, I'm glad I have what i have. Do my own oil and filter changes every 3-4k miles.

I apologize for not spelling "shocks" correctly in the above reply. Too lazy to proof-read my post

Regular maintenance, replace battery once. Today my left rear window failed to operate. Heard something snapped when operating window. Window no longer able to stay close. Can still hear motor running when holding down window switch. Any suggestion?

1999 E300 TurboDiesel black/black
year: 1999
model: E300TD
country: usa
milage: 101,734
comments: original family owned, used to be my moms, now mine. While she owned it, she was in several accidents: hit deer 3 times, went into a ditch, and backed into a lightpole. Many replacement parts dont match the paint of the rest of the call. neglected last winter and sit outside, small surface rust bubbling starting to pop up here and there.
Car is about to be fully redone by myself....E55 AMG kit and 18" monobloccks and fresh jaguar black paint...considering two tone for the JDM "VIP" style

Jaman:
You have experienced the notorious window "regulator" failure. Sounds like an electrical component but it's mechanical. If you search the forum for "W210 window problem", "window problem", etc. you'll probably come up with some info. It's a job you can do yourself but requires a beefy pop riveter to do it right.

144k on my 1997 E320
AC compressor and condenser (almost $2000)
Needs instrument lights replaced
Check engine error (gross emissions leak) havn't figured that one out yet
Looks like the previous owner had a head gasket replaced at 23K
Window regulator
I try to keep an opened mind about the car, it does have a ton of miles and is almost a decade old.
