2000 E class vanity mirror fix
This may be old news to some but it was pretty satisfying to me. I had been buying used sunvisors to fix the constantly breaking plastic covers for the vanity mirrors. I had be paying 50-80 dollars for used ones. I got the replacment assembly from Mercedes for 54 dollars each. It just snaps in and your done. I was told one could only buy the complete visor assembly for hundred of dollars. I got a parts person to fax me a sheet showing the parts. The part I got was number 87 not the number 105 that is circled. The part number is A 210 810 25 10 1A21. Mine was Java/Palamino in color but they have others colors as well.

Are you just buying the mirror cover itself?

Take the bulb out and check the socket with one of those voltage checkers= you can buy at local auto parts store for about $5 or $10, or switch bulb from driver side to passenger side and see what happens. My lights are in the ceiling about the vanity mirror...my car is a 2000, and they switch on once you open the vanity mirror.

Did you order from dealer directly or online? I tried a few online parts stores and part number could not be found......I will call Mercedes in my area and see if they carry it. I need passenger side assembly.

I have made my own fix. I drilled two little holes where the tabs go out from, and then placed an extened paperclip through the holes. It is a little tricky. I got the passenger side to work well, stay open and trigger the light to go on and everything. Mostly - I was just happy I didn't have to drop much $$ for something as fragile as those plastic tabs.

KADE,
I got the part at the dealer. Look at the first post in this topic. I took a picture of the box and it has the part number on it.

vanity mirror cover pin repair
My passenger side vanity mirror cover broke (one of the pins snapped off). I repaired it with the method described in a thread from the BenzWorld forum (see below for link; reference post #9 from "MechEng").
It worked like a charm. I had to buy 100ea. of the pins from McMaster-Carr so I have plenty left if anybody wants one. Just send a PM with your address.

Forget the pins from McMaster-Carr, use small nails, work great.
Forget the pins from McMaster-Carr, use small nails, work great, also you will not need to drill for nail.
I had 2 broken mirror cover in my 2001 E-430. I call dealer and got the price of $40 each.
I decided to fix it by my self. It is easy.
Remove the cover and mirror from Visor, use plastic flat knife and pray on mirror assembly, it will pop out of visor.
Then I went and got no HEAD 1" small nails. Heat up the nail pointy part on stove till it is really hot then take the pointy hot part of nail carefully straight into the cover where the old plastic arm was.
Once the nail cool down, just cut it to same lenght as original plastic arm.
Do same on other side of the cover.
Once both side got nail in it and cooled off and cut to lenght, you can now snap in the cover over the mirror holding back part.
Walla, you are done. Now pop the mirror assembly back into the visor.
It work and look fine. It is more stronger now then original cheap plastic crape arm.

It is not your bulb, it is switch
It is not your bulb, believe me I found 2 bad switces on my 1997 and 2001 W210. All the bulbs are good.
Before you look for bulb, open vanity mirror assembly and try to by pass switch and power the bulb direct by shorting wiring across swtich.
Stealer will not sell you only switch, they want you to buy whole visor assembly.
Thanks to this Forum, I went to Radio Shack and found same style switch with little longer actuator on it.
Bend back the lever of switch and it fit perfetct.
Radio Shack P/N 275-016A (Submini lever switch) $2.69.

Vanity Design is Crap
Ok. I had to use the switch from the driver's side visor to get the passenger side operational, which if fine because the driver's side visor is dirty, has a broken vanity cover that is missing, and the visor won't operate easily, has vanity glass that is totally scratch up, etc. So, the passenger side is up and running with nails used as pins in the cover. Works fine.
However, not only is the vanity designed like crap, it operates like crap. In the open position, the vanity cover blocks the light beam from the roof!! Huh? Incredibly ****-poor design.
Thanks to all the wizards here for their help, especially hadam, keep up the great work.
Now I'm in the market for a new gray color drivers' side visor assembly, or maybe this gives me the opportunity to look into a Visor TV, or something.

I had both mirror covers broken off for several years, then finally searched and found this forum. Similar to the procedure described above, I drilled a hole with a 7/32 drill bit where the broken pin was, then used a hack saw to cut a #6 casing nail to the right length, then slid the nail stub into the hole filled with SuperGlue, waited over night, and installed in the car next day. So far only 24 hours in place, so hoping the fix will be as good as it seems.

2002 Mercedes wagon
I just did this procedure today and it worked like a charm. I used a 1/8 diameter drill to drill the holes. I used a drill press to line the covers up. I drilled deep enough to be able to push the pin into the cover, put the cover in place and then push the pins into place from the back side.
When I first did the drivers side the light didn't work. I pushed up on the cover and the light came on. I had to tweak it slightly but it is working now. Really good fix. Thanks to everyone who participated in this thread. Saved me some cash.
