will the cat. converter 80,000/8 year warranty be cover with remus exhaust installed
i think i have some cat. converter problems. its making some slight clunking noise when the car warms up. i can put it in park and press the gas pedal when it drops to 1000 rpms it makes the noise. seems to get abit louder as the car gets warmer. i only have 66,000 miles. i just put in the remus like last week, it was making that noise before i put the muffler on there, so its got nothing to do with the remus muffler. do i have to put the stock muffler back on there to get the dealer to warranty it, if it is the cat.?

Is okay, the builder had to warranty the cats, and remus does not affect the cat life,so you are good to go.Sound like gravel shaking in a tin can?
don't take any guff at the dealer, you are under the limits on both counts. They usually will only replace the bad one,so hope the other one fails before the time runs out! Some cats are born bad ,some go bad because of faulty o2 sensors precat ,and bad Maf's being ignored,so it might be a good idea to check all of you emission related gear,to rule out that being the cause of the early cat failure.

and why Remus?like the sound?

thanks, exactly what i wanted to know, that the remus muffler will not void the warranty of the cats. the noise is hard to describe but it does sound like a loose metal piece rumbling and hitting either its from vibration or air blowing through the one of the cans under the car. its not showing any codes. i like the sound of remus, current i am not hearing any tone as yet, cause the resonator is still on. i hope to take that off after i get this check out at the dealer. i hope they do something.

i made an appointment with the mercedes dealer to take a look at the rattling, clunking noise. specifically at the cat. converters. i ask them if theres going to be any charge, they said no, for something this minor, if they had a bay open they coulda looked at it at that moment.
my car is is 2000 with 67,000 miles. the 7year/70000miles warranty is gone, only the the 8year/80,000miles warranty is left and they have to cross their fingers somehow, i dont exactly sure what they mean. it still means i am covered right? i will see how it goes on thursday.

Are you the
original owner? Can you find the date of first use?by the original owner. What is the production date in the driver door? The reason I'm asking is the war coverage on the cats is 8yr/80000 from date of first use, they know it,and will check it,so figure it out first. It is late august 07,if the car was sold as a 2000model in late aug 99 it is 8years old,by next week, etc. So if it was sold anytime before the day you take it in to the shop minus 8years,they may say you are SOL.find that date,it may be recorded in the owner manual,if you have the original dealers name ,call them,or look in the door if the car was built in sept,oct,nov,dec,99 or is truly an 01 car built on or after jan 01,you are fine.
hope it's the cat,if you find out the above info post it here before you go.And we'll tell you the next step...

So...if the cat fails before 8/80K, the dealer will replace it for free?

i will check the manufactured date on the car later this afternoon. i did saw the original maintenance booklet from the previous/first owner. it said on the first page aug/xx/2000. i cant remember the exact date, i was looking at it last night. the 8year/80,000 miles starts when the car is sold and not when the car is manufactured.
whats weird is that the lady in service department, first ask for the registration and i handed that to her, she punch in the vin i beieve, then asked is this a wagon, i said no, its a seden. she seem suprised. then she as, is this a 4matic looking at her computer screen, i said no, its not a 4matic. she seems a little puzzled there for minute and continued on. thats just a little strange that the info is all wrong on their computers. so my vin in their computer is a 4matic wagon lol.

i just checked its 05/2000 the date that is on the sticker the door. i also checked in the booklet on the page "vehicle warranty information" delivery/warranty: aug/05/2000. its just past the 7 year/70,000mile warranty by a couple of weeks.

but not
past the 8/80000mile cat warranty, that is mandated by law,so if its a bad cat, freebie!
