Are there part numbers stamped in W210 springs?

Anyone know? If so, where is it stamped?
If not, how do you identify the difference between springs off an E320, E420, E300, E55?
Thank you,

They are not stamped anywhere on the spring, however my OEM springs do have various color paint stripes in the middle so I'm thinking that's how they told them apart at the factory. The aftermarket springs I had for a short time had the part number for the set painted on each of the springs.

from experience, there is a TOP vs BOTTOM on the springs as well....and not
always very apparent. study them closely before you put them on.

Not to hijack the post but I have been trying to get my spring pads replaced and have been quoted prices of anywhere of $500-$600 labor, is this right or way off?

It just seems extremely high to me.
Any help is appreciated.

Woah, "Run Forest RUUUUNNN!" That's outrages and if people were willing to pay that kind of money I'd open up a shop! The pads in total will cost you about $30 bucks. If you're mechanically inclined, even a little bit, purchase a spring compressor for a couple hundred bucks and do your suspension yourself. You can even rent a spring compressor for about $20 bucks and do it. If not and you're going to pay someone to do it, if your considering shorter springs to lower your car in the future then buy them now and get it done all at once. The springs need to be compressed and removed to change the pads at the tops of the springs so might as well swap the springs as well if you're planning for that in the future. Locally (SoCal) you can usually pay between $250-$350 bucks to swap out your springs, spring pads and shocks all together. Good luck brotha!

seeing as how a professional with a lift, proper tools and experience would make
a spring pad swap just a little more time consuming than what you see on this
video
, I would think it is well over 2x what should charged for such a task.

Holy poop on a stick! That is one slick spring tool in that video.

I paid $250 to have my springs installed.

The Klann tool is $600..maybe more. I don't recall the exact figure. The eBay knock off is just over $200...and it works quite well

I have the ebay knock off and it works perfectly. I have removed my springs about 3 times now and no issues whatsoever. Here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...spagenameZWDVW

Wow I just watched that video and there is no way this job would take 4.5 hrs as the shop said it would, unless I missed some time lapses on the video.
I will see if I can record this flick and show it to those clowns at the shop just to see what the will say.

"Jimmy"
You probably right! I should go ahead and put in new springs since I'm having to have it done anyway.

Thanks Guys.

Don't show

them any video, just take your business into your own hands and the hell with the shop. They would probably tell you something discouraging anyway, like go screw yourself if you want to try that job on your own.
just diy and be careful.

I agree with ohlord, you might even offend them enough to make them mess with something else on your car causing you to eventually spend more money with them. Mechanics can be very shady and you have to be very careful. If you don't mind getting a little dirty just DIY, you'll learn more about your car and you'll save a lot of money! Good luck!

Well, if you can find them from another member in here pre-owned for cheap, that would be great. But, Performance Products has them for cheap right now, like $232 bucks no joke and shipping is cheap too! Here is the link: http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/S...=&brand=Eibach

Thank you,
I swaped my springs out this week ( stock 1999 e430 for a 2002 e55) did a pad swap also #1 for #5. did the shocks as well OEM for KYB..

did tit all in 4 hours without a spring compressor too

funny thing though........car rides terrible at speeds below 40 mph ....stiff!

what is the biggest contributor to the rough ride?

pads, springs, shocks..........

oh yeah my stock springs had LORINZER printed on them with a part # ?

has anyone ever heard of this?

The KYB shocks and struts I installed on my W201 rode very rough. My guess is that your shocks have mostly to do with how the car rides. Smaller spring pads may also contribute because you have less rubber now between the spring and where it sits on the frame of the car.

You shouldn't have a rough ride from the E55 springs, mine rode really nice. From what I've been reading lately it's gotta be the KYB shocks. These things from what I gather are more for track and ride really stiff. The thin spring pads also contribute to a rougher ride but not by that much. I think you need to swap those KYB's for some Biltein HD's to go with your E55 springs. If you had shorter springs like H&R sport or Eibach Pro I'd recommend the Bilstein Sport shocks. Good luck!

voice inside my head says not only would pad thickness be undetectable by
your rear, but that thinner pad may theoretically result in a softer ride,
as the spring is less compressed. then again, this is the same voice that
says JFK assassination conspiracy is for real. que?
