how strong is the spare rim???

Hi all I was wondering how strong is the spare rim that comes on my E430? are they as good as the regular rims? I really like the way these look and want to find three more so I can put them on my car ,but I am not sure how smart this would be. this is just something I thought of today since I had a flat and had to use the spare. Any input is welcome THANKS!

since they're generally rated for max of X speed for X duration, that would
clue me to the fact that they weren't made for protracted use at high speed.
so my subjective response and opinion would be to forego this idea.

The spare is the same as all the rims on my car.

duh...my bad. in my head, i was thinking space saver spare rim. of course,
the proper answer is "it depends" on the rim. in the absence of anything
specific in the OP, natch, it's difficult to conclude anything.

Sorry I didn't explain correctly it's the black one that comes on E430's it seems like it would be just as strong as the other ones a it is the same size as the ones on the car.

they wont be going on the E430 they would be going on my 93 300E and I was thinking of getting all the letters taken off and getting them powder coated a nice color ,but I want to make sure they are safe.

Ohhh, well what I'd do is I'd call an MB dealership around you and ask the parts department, they'll give you a straighforward answer...
Powdercoat is sexy.

I have it also. It's a light alloy reduced load capacity wheel to be used as a spare only. It is clearly stamped on the wheel in four languages as seen on your picture. There is also a warning label, actually in duplicate on the rim edge with more information.

Hope it helps.

Cheers

...again... I am shocked to see such an unbefitting thread regarding permanent use of a spare tire on this forum.

It is threads like these that are reason for pondering the quality of the modern Mercedes-Benz clientele these days.

thanks! every one and yeah thats why I made the thread so people with more experience would give me their opinions ,but I will call the MB dealership and ask them. My plan was to buy the rims get the letters removed then have them powder coated or painted a nice color(gunmetal or satin black) and buy some good tires and slap them on my 300E.

Unhappy

Looks like the rim isn't strong enough I called the dealership and the tech told me that they aren't good for going over 50 mph so I guess I will have to go on with the stockers

^^^I like those ,but they are kinda out of my budget for right now. Those spares would have been easier and a bit cheaper to get. The ones above would be next on the list. Looks like I'll have to gather up a little money and look for those...anyone have an idea of how much a set of those go for?

yeah they are not the best looking ,but are nicer than the stockers...anything I get will be powder coated black, gunmetal or maybe gold. some one throw me ideas of some nice decent looking wheels. I will be saving up for some and will be getting them maybe by summer time.

wow those are different from the spare tire in my 97 E420. Mine is a full size steel wheel with full size tire for a E320...so it can go at any speed like the other wheels..except I have the AMG monoblocks LOL.

spare rims

My 99 E320 4motion Wagon has a full size tire exactly like the tires on the road, however the aluminum wheel that looks just like the wheels on the road, is labeled as limited to 20,000 miles.
Why they did that is beyond me! Saving a few bucks on a wheel doesn't make musc sense considering the $65,000 for the car. I considered replacing it with a real wheel, but it probably isn't worth it.

You could always check out a junkyard, or eBay.
