I change my mobile 1 every 3000 mile regardless of what they recommend. dirty oil is dirty oil to me. Beside each oil change the car feel & drive like a new car. Aslo, it been proven of dynojet that new oil make more HP.

Personally I only use Mobil 1 0W-40 and change my oil every 5,000 miles. It seems to me that changing your oil on a regular basis (even with Mobil 1 prices) is cheap insurance. I can't imagine going 15,000 miles without an oil change. In addition as ohlord indicated it doesn't meet MB specifications. It my opinion it is not worth the risk. Good luck.

If
you are on the fss and use the proper spec oil and fleece filter and you change the oil more frequently then the average fss 10-11k miles no harm is done(except to your wallet)But also no benefit is to be had either.A tight engine is going to see no breakdown of the protective qualities of mb spec oil in far excess of the fss rating,so why waste oil and add to global pollution needlessly?
For no measurable gain.

ohlord you may very well be correct. I change it more often based on the recommendation of my local independent Mercedes mechanic. Even though it may be a little agressive to change my oil and filter at 5000 miles I always take my used oil to the local recycling center and sleep a little better at night.

Do you
DIY your own oil changes? If so that is what you need to sleepIf he is doing them(and I have seen shops tell there customers to change syn oil at 2500 miles
and you know who that is benefiting and it is not the engine)

I actually do my own oil changes. I only use his services for major repairs that I don't have the equipment or expertise to perform. I know that there are many different thoughts on this subject. I just happen to trust his opinion. It would be interesting to know how many M112 and M113 engines are out there with 200,000 + miles that followed the FSS maintenace schedule. If there is solid empirical evidence to suggest that there is no difference between 5,000 and 10,000 mile oil changes I can be convinced.

Mobil 1® Extended Performance oil Does not meet MB spec's.
Also Mobil 1® Extended Performance has to be used with Syn Oil Filter only, if not, filter has to be changed every 5000KM or 3000Miles.

I follow FSS... 10-11k miles between changes... my car uses nor leaks any oil... I have 900 miles to go before my next A Service and I have not had to add oil.
This is nice compared to my '91 that I had to add oil to every 1k miles and change the oil every 3k at 50.00 a pop...

Use Mobil 1 0W-40 and replace once a year. Doing about 10k/year.
I once skipped an oil change by mistake on an Acura TL 3.2 using Amsoil. Put 22k miles on it with one filter and never had a problem with that engine at all.
Cheers

Please
what does a lube joint know about oil changes in a mercedes.FSS oil changes are 10-11k miles with 0w40 mb spec in an fss model with the proper fleece filter.
Do you even carry them?
0w40 syn will go longer then 12k mercedes sets the fss at the 10k mile range use the fss range not every 5-6k miles.
do you use the factory suction method?

I have been running over 10,000 miles between oil changes since my 92 Lincoln was purchased in 93. Use Mobile 1 and all vehicles have gone over 200000 miles with no issues. There are studies that show changing M1 every 3000 miles will cause more engine wear. The oil actually gets better after 3000 miles. I also would follow the MB rec's for 229.5 0w40 M1 oil and use the correct fleece filter from MB.
Ref: http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/s.../oil-life.html
For the details on the oil analysis and testing in a LS1 GM engine. The LS1 engine is what is in my corvette using M1 oils and it is driven on the track 1 each year and normal in town stop and go traffic. At 75,000 miles the engine still performs like a new engine on M1.
So if you want to change oil at 3000 miles feel free to do so, but do understand the wear on your engine and the $$ it takes to do so.
Have a nice day and be don't waste resources.
