!More on the AC Front
So, the stealership tells me my receiver drier is leaking and I need to replace it, as well as the expansion valve (stating it must not be allowing overpressure to escape as the cause of the problem). And I must have a new hose assembly as the parts have changed and it is required, and top it off with a new temp sensor and high/low switch. Any opinions out there? Can't afford to have the dealership do it, but I may try to tackle it myself.

AC issue #7 = CLO
In the morning, my AC takes about 15 minutes to kick in once I start my car and once the AC kicks in, it's ice cold. In the afternoon, while my car is sitting under sun (Florida sun), my AC takes longer to kick in.
While I was driving and while it was NOT blowing cold, I put my AC in diagnostic mode, and #7 had 'CLO'. What does that mean? Once the AC kicked in I had numbers like 20 degree symbol and 3.

In the mornings, when the AC is not blowing cold, #5 is almost room temp. around 71 and #7 is CLO.

I was able to get some extra fault diagnosis from the AC control unit. The only other fault was 232 (Refrigerant Pressure Sensor B12). Now to replace that part, do I have to evacuate the freon, replace the sensor, and then refill? Or, just replacing the part?
Also, should I do the receiver/dryer while I'm at it?

OK the light went off after we forced the charge to it with out the compressor running BUT the low side pressure is to high and it still blows warm air - i need to know the location of the expansion valve GOING TO REPLACE IT FIRST BEFORE THE COMPRESSOR BECAUSE THE PRESSURES ARE STEADY BUT ONLY THE LOW IS HIGH any one HELP ???????? -- JZ

Stop throwing
parts and gas into it.Have you ran the diagnostics and posted the values and errors,as requested?
You could be full up and not know it.Variable demand compressor systems, fill pressures can be tricky to verify with snop on fill.
Post them when you got them.

did they show you the crack?

I assume that all the r134a is gone with a big leak like that,so no problems in having to capture the r134a.Replace the condenser and the drier, then go to an a/c shop have them flush and pull a vacuum on the system and refill it with the correct amount of r134a and oil(the weight and oil are listed on the top cover of the ecu module passenger side in the engine compartment.
go to benzworld.org w210 section I don't remember a diy but post a shout out for Matt L ,he has done the diy most recently and it has been a bit of time since I had to do a w210 so his memory will be fresher as to tool and nut fittings.alldatadiy.com has most of the factory wis so a subscription to it or a member with a current one can tell you if it contains the procedure.
hope this helps

Smell from the AC Vents.
We have a 2002 E320 and when the A/C is on it blows cold but then after a short time she starts to blow a funny smell and stops blowing cold for a about 10 seconds or so. Then she starts blowing cold again. Along with this comes a small scratching sound fromk the vents as well. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Everytime I've had that experience, it turned out to be a leaking evaporator core. The oily smell hits you in the face from the vents.
The refrigerant is probably marginally low at this point which is causing the compressor to cycle off. A dealer could troubleshoot. Not cheap though.
Just adding refrigerant and not correcting a leak, will only last a few weeks or months.

I own a 1999 W210 Mercedes.
Have you replaced your cabin filter? It is located inside the glove box, you'll have to remove the cover. It is placed directly behind your glove box, try that first then go with Black's advice.

Try to turn off the AC, turn on the heat, and blower to MAX for 10 minutes. Then repeat that a few more times before you park your car for the day.
Then try to develop a habit to not use the AC the last 5 minutes of the day driving the car (still use the blower).
The main cause is moisture at the evaporator so the bacteria can thrive. Once you keep it dry then they cannot live (like talking water out of a fish tank ).
Many manufactures (Ford, GM) have electronic solutions for this problem by programing to run the fan after the engine is shutdown.
However, MB is engineered like no other so we have to sacrifice not using the AC for the last a few minutes of the day.

AC stopped working
Turned on my AC today and noticed that it wasn't cooling. Went home and tested with a gauge and it showed empty. Question - does Mercedes use the same cooling thing that other cars use (R12?)? If so, what brand do you recommend? How much do I need. Hopefully it's nothing more serious and a fill up fixes it.
Thanks
